Unanimous leadership in 55 wards of Jhapa

JHAPA, September 5: Leadership has been unanimously elected in 55 wards of the district in the lead up to the upcoming 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. Regional representatives and ward working committees have been unanimously elected in 131 wards and conventions are underway in other wards, according to chief of the party's district publicity department Krishna Humagain.  There are more than 33,000 active members of the ruling Nepali Congress in the district. Ram Kattel, who has announced his candidature for the post of district chair, has been unanimously elected as the regional representative. According to Humagain, all the 80 regional representatives and the ward working committee members including Kattel from Mechinagar Ward no. 10 were unanimously elected. Leader Kattel is currently the party's district vice president. Unopposed election has been held in 8 wards of Mechinagar, four wards of Buddhashanti, six wards of Birtamod, five wards of Arjundhara, four wards of Kankai, seven wards of Jhapa village municipality, three wards of Shivasatasi, one ward of Kamal, one ward of Gauradaha, two wards of Gauriganj, three wards of Bhadrapur and four wards of Bahardashi. The ward working committee and regional representatives have been unanimously elected in wards 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15 in Mechinagar of Constituency No. 1, efforts are being made to reach consensus in other wards as well, said Mani Upreti, Regional President.

NC President Deuba expresses grief over Thapa's demise

KATHMANDU, June 22: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed grief over the death of Dhankuta district secretary of party, Krishna Thapa. Thapa had died in a road accident occurred at Biratchwok of Morang on Sunday night while going to Jhapa from Dhankuta. The motorcycle Thapa was riding was hit by a tipper. Even his brother, Bhim Bahadur, riding together was seriously injured in the incident. The late Thapa was 45 year old. Issuing a condolence message, President Deuba paid tribute to the late one and extended condolences to the bereaved family members. He also wished the speedy recovery of the injured one. Deuba reminded that the late Thapa had played an active role in building party organization and Nepal's democratic movement.

Two justices appointed to Supreme Court

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Dr Kumar Chudal (Jhapa) and Nahakul Subedi (Myagdi) as the justices of the Supreme Court.  The President appointed them the Supreme Court justices on the recommendation of the Judicial Council and in accordance with Article 129 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, spokesperson at the Office of the President, Rup Narayan Bhattarai said in a press note today.  Chudal is the Chief Judge at the High Court, Patan and Subedi the Chief Judge at the High Court, Surkhet. The parliamentary hearing special committee had endorsed their names for appointment few days back.

President Deuba condoles demise of Pradhananga, Rai

Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has condoled the demise of Ayishworya Lal Pradhananga, the founding president of Nepali Congress Bhaktapur district committee and former state minister. Pradhananga died at the age of 96 on April 2 at his residence in Lalitpur. In a message on Monday, Deuba has expressed heartfelt condolence to Pradhananga and deep sympathies to the bereaved family while stating that Nepali Congress lost a veteran personality.    President Deuba has recalled Pradhananga’s contributions to party organisation, Nepal’s democratic and social movement. Pradhananga served as the President of NC Bhaktapur district committee for three years in early 1950s, member of National Planning Commission, National Assembly member and State Minister for Commerce and Supplies.      Similarly, NC President Deuba has expressed grief to the demise of DB Rai, the then President of Nepali Congress (Democratic) Taplejung district committee. Rai died on his way to Jhapa for treatment on April 4. In his condolence message, Deuba has expressed heartfelt condolence to the departed soul stating that Nepali Congress lost a man with integrity and simplicity. Born in 2004 BS, Rai leaves behind four sons and two daughters.
