PM Deuba summons NC office bearers meeting

KATHMANDU, September 22: Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba has summoned NC’s officer bearers for a meeting on Wednesday. The  meeting has been scheduled for 3P today at the PM office in Baluwatar. The meeting will select leaders for ministers, a NC leader told Ratopati. PM Deuba had recommended the appointment of leader Narayan Khadka in the post of Minister for Foreign Affairs in a meeting of the ruling alliance held on Tuesday. It has been learnt that the office bearers meeting has been called following an agreement between the ruling alliance to appoint Khadka as a Foreign Minister.

NC Vice President Nidhi announces to contend for presidential position

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi has announced that he would be contesting for the party president post in the upcoming 14th General Convention.  With this announcement, he has established a contact office at Thapagaun of New Baneshwor for meeting the party leaders and cadres.  Inaugurating the office today, the former Deputy Prime Minister said he would be competing for the party’s chief post not to defeat, retire or prove anyone else incompetent in the party.  As he said on the occasion, he wished to further strengthen the party and contribute to the party to garner a majority in upcoming elections of all levels and his candidacy would be for supporting his wishes to come true.   According to him, the inspiration and contribution of founding leader BP Koirala were determining factors behind his present status in the NC. Stating that the party had a greater role in facilitating to promulgate the Constitution with the federal democratic republic and the inclusive political provisions though the party had no majority in the Constituent Assembly (CA), the leader said the party would own up the responsibility for the effective implementation of the Constitution.  He argued that irregularities have surfaced in each sector in the country for three years as the country was governed by a political party that does not believe in the spirit of the constitution.    Leader Nidhi said his party will present this issue to the public in the upcoming election. He further shared that over 35 percent of active members were youth therefore he will facilitate the youths to come into the party leadership.   On another note, Vice President Nidhi opined that the constitution has ensured religious freedom to all. On the occasion, central committee members, district presidents, and leaders from different regions were present.

NC Vice-President Nidhi and visiting BJP leader Chauthaiwale meet

KATHMANDU, August 26: Vice-President of ruling Nepali Congress, Bimalendra Nidhi and visiting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Foreign Affairs Department Chief, Vijay Chauthaiwale held a meeting in the capital.  In a meeting held on Wednesday, the two leaders discussed several matters related to Nepal-India relations as well as the relations between Nepali Congress and BJP, informed Vice-President Nidhi’s press advisor Ramjee Dahal.  The Foreign Affairs Department Chief of India’s ruling party BJP is in his official Nepal visit at the invitation of the Nepali Congress.  On the occasion, Vice-President Nidhi drew Indian government’s attention through Chauthaiwale towards providing vaccines against COVID-19 to Nepal as per the agreed deal. Likewise, Nidhi also drew the attention towards delayed implementation of the grant projects announced during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Janakpur.  Noting that the governments of both the countries should advance necessary process for the operation of Janakpur-Kurta Railway Service. Vice-President Nidhi stressed the need to jointly inaugurate the service from the prime ministers of both the countries at an opportune time.  During the meet, visiting leader Chauthaiwale said he positively took to his note the issues raised by Vice-President Nidhi.

Nidhi says he will be contesting for NC President

Nepali Congress Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi has said he will be contesting for the President for the party. Talking to media persons here today, leader Nidhi said, " There will be my candidacy for the party President during the party's 14th General Convention." As he said, he is preparing to announce his candidacy no matter when the Convention is held.  He went on to say that disputes over the party's active membership would end soon and the preparations for the General Convention would take place.  "Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is saying that the Convention will be held in Bhadau (August-September), discussions have begun to address disputes over the active membership issues and the preparations for the General Convention will get momentum once the disputes are sorted out. Hence, there is no need for an ad hoc committee or a special convention."  The former Deputy Prime Minister said the government's common minimum programme has been finalised by the taskforce and the Cabinet will be expanded soon. Efforts are on to include CPN (UM)'s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal faction in the government and that's why the expansion of the Cabinet has been delayed for some time.  ''We wish to include all those who supported party President Deuba to become the Prime Minister. That's why the expansion of the Council of Ministers gets delayed and discussions for the same are going on,'' he added.

NC president Deuba pays tribute to late Nabindra Raj Joshi

Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the party and country have lost a capable leader in the demise of NC leader and former Minister Nabindra Raj Joshi. At a condolence assembly organised today by NC Central Committee at the NC central office, Sanepa, on the 13th day of Joshi's passing, President Deuba mentioned that Joshi was the leader able to lead the party in future. He shared, "Joshi was a studious leader able to do lots of work in a short period. He had made a name for himself and the party by working in favour of the country and the people when he took the responsibility of minister for short period." President Deuba further said that the NC has the historical responsibility upon its shoulder in the coming days, adding that true tribute towards leader Joshi would be only if democracy was institutionalized. Similarly, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel argued that the country lost an energetic and promising leader in Joshi's demise.  He said the lack of diligent, creative and honest leader would be felt in the country and in the party in coming days, adding the demise of Joshi caused an irreparable loss to the NC.  Likewise, Rajuraj Joshi, brother of late Joshi, said that the party should highly evaluate of its leader.  The NC has been organising condolence assembly in all 77 districts across the nation today commemorating the 13th day of demise of Joshi, according to the NC central office.
