UML strips four leaders of membership of party, Karnali Province Assembly

KATHMANDU, April 24: The ruling CPN-UML on Friday decided to take action against four members of the Karnali Province Assembly for defying the whip issued by the party  and voting in favor of Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi while the latter was taking vote of confidence of province assembly.  A meeting of the party’s Tenth General Convention Organizing Committee relieved them  from the party membership and Province Assembly members as well. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, expelled Province Assembly members Prakash Jwala, Ammar Bahadur Thapa, Nanda Singh Budha and Kurmaraj Shahi for crossing of the floor, according to party Spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. The Karnali Province Assembly Secretariat will be informed about the decision.

Two leaders of CPN (Maoist Center) appointed ministers in Karnali Province

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Two leaders of CPN (Maoist Center) have been appointed ministers in Karnali Province. Following the resignation of Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Bindaman Bista and Minister for Water Resource and Energy Development, Ganesh Prasad Singh on Monday, Rato Kami of West Rukum and Krishna Shah of Jajarkot were appointed on Monday. Shah has been appointed Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning while Kami has been appointed Minister for Water Resource and Energy Development. These newly appointed ministers are scheduled to be sworn in at 3 PM this afternoon. With this all the eleven provencial assembly members of CPN (Maoist Center) in the province are now ministers of the province.

CPN UML to direct its four leaders to quit Karnali government

SURKHET, June 11: Chief Whip of CPN UML Parliamentary Party in Karnali Province, Gulab Jung Shah, has said four members of the party would be directed to withdraw their support given to Mahendra Bahadur Shahi-led government. Shah said they would ask its four members, who saved the government led by Mahendra Bahadur Shahi with floor cross, to resign from the post immediately and formally quit the government. He added that a meeting of the party would be organized to direct them to leave the government immediately.   As per the Supreme Court’s verdict, the four members are the Karnali Province Assembly members of the CPN UML and now they have to follow party’s whip, he opined. The Chief Whip argued, “One cannot say I do not belong to that party and follow the rules after winning an election under party's election symbol. All should follow statute of party and parliamentary party.” They should be ready to face action otherwise return to party leaving the government, said Shah. A new discussion has begun after the Supreme Court reinstated four members of the CPN (UML) who have been facing action after crossing the floor. Discussion has started about Karnali government after the SC reinstated Prakash Jwala, Ammar Bahadur Thapa, Kurma Raj Shahi and Nanda Singh Budha, who were relieved from the post after CPN UML took action against them.

Budget session of Karnali Province Assembly begins today

KARNALI,June 7: Budget session of Karnali Province Assembly has begun from today. The session started at 2 pm which focus on the provincial government’s budget, policies and programmes for the next fiscal year, 2021/22 and the control of COVID-19 pandemic, it has been said.  In the meeting, a letter relating to a session calling from chief of the province, new appointment, reshuffle and work allocation at the Cabinet will be read out, according to the Province Assembly Secretary Jibaraj Budhathoki.  Participating political leaders will put their views on current issues, he said.  All party meeting held on Thursday on the initiatives of Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi had urged the provincial government to call a budget session at the earliest. The provincial government shall present budget on June 15 and government’s policies and programmes at least one week ago at a Province Assembly meeting, according to the constitutional provisions.
