Amid House obstruction by main opposition, Speaker Sapkota summons all-party meeting

KATHMANDU: Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has summoned an all-party meeting for Monday.  Speaker Sapkota’s call for the all-party meeting comes at a time when the main opposition, CPN-UML has been obstructing the proceedings of the House of Representatives (HoR) since the new session began on Wednesday nearly after a month.  Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand confirmed that the meeting has been called for 2:30 PM on Monday a day before the next House meeting has been scheduled for 1 PM, Tuesday.  Minister Khand also added that the government is ready to resolve the issue through the dialogue between the ruling and opposition sides.

PM Deuba calls all-party meeting on Sunday

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has called an all-party meeting. According to Govinda Pariyar, a press aide to PM Deuba, the meeting will convene at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar at 4 PM, Sunday.  Bhanu Deuba, an aide to Deuba said that the meeting will dwell on the solutions to end the ongoing parliament stalemate.  The main opposition UML has been obstructing the House meeting since September 8. Though a new session kicked off on Tuesday, the meeting could not enter into normal businesses owing to the UML obstruction. UML has been blaming Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota for the latter's ‘biased act’ by not taking action against 14 lawmakers which the party had sacked in August.  Earlier, Deuba had a meeting with the chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Friday morning.  Two leaders agreed to move ahead after holding discussions with all the political parties over two major issues ---- prolonged House obstruction by the CPN-UML and the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a United States government program.  Meanwhile, the government is reportedly preparing to table the MCC in the House meeting. However, the coalition partners of the five-party ruling alliance are at odds on whether or not to table the compact.  The Maoist party has been stressing the need for forging a common understanding among the ruling partners before presenting the compact for ratification.

PM Deuba to summon all-party meeting

KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Following a meeting with one of the coalition partners, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to summon an all-party meeting.  Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and PM Deuba held a meeting at the Baluwatar-based official residence of the prime minister on Friday morning.  Two leaders agreed to move ahead after holding discussions with all the political parties over two major issues ---- prolonged House obstruction by the CPN-UML and the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a United States government program.  According to the secretariat of Prachanda, Deuba is preparing to call an all-party meeting over the burning issues next Sunday or Monday--- before the next scheduled meeting of the House of Representatives on December 21.  The main opposition UML has been obstructing the House meeting since September 8. Though a new session kicked off on Tuesday, the meeting could not enter into normal businesses owing to the UML obstruction. CPN (UML) Chair Oli boycotts all-party meeting summoned by PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, September 30: Chairman of CPN (UML) KP Sharma Oli boycotted an all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Deuba on Thursday morning. The meeting was summoned at the PM’s office residence at Baluwatar to discuss the continuous House obstruction by the CPN (UML) and find a solution. CPN (UML) has been maintaining that it won’t participate in any sort of meeting attended by CPN (Unified Maoist) formed by the sprinter faction of the party-led by Madhav Kumar Nepal. Earlier, CPN (UML) took action against 14 lawmakers including Nepal. These lawmakers then registered a new party named CPN (Unified Socialist). The CPN (UML) has also filed a writ petition against the EC and Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota regarding the registration of CPN (Unified Socialist) and the case is sub-judice at the apex court.

KATHMANDU: An all-party meeting called by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has begun at the Lhotse Hall of the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor.  The meeting aims at resolving issues as the main opposition continued House obstruction since the new session began on Wednesday, last week.  Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushap Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN (US) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, JSP Chair Upendra Yadav and DSP Chair Mahantha Thakur were asked to join the meeting. However, the main opposition UML has boycotted the meeting.  Similarly, Durga Poudel of Rastriya Janamorcha, Prem Suwal of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Rajendra Lingden of Rastriya Prajatantra Party were also invited to the meeting.
