Mangalbare (Ilam), October 6 — The work to repair the Maikhola-Bhanjang section of the Mechi highway has been stopped after another landslide occurred. The road section was damaged by a landslide few days ago.
The ongoing restoration work has been stopped since Saturday evening due to the risk of more damage following a landslide. The Divisional Road Office has said that the maintenance work has been suspended due to continuous landslides.
With this road section remain blocked for traffic, travelers are forced to make alternative arrangements for going to Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung.

Engineers have suggested finding an alternative to a road section of Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality-9. The highway section from the Rajduwali Bridge over the Mai Khola to Bhanjyang has been in a deteriorating condition for years as the entire slope is gradually moving down causing frequent landslips every year, especially in monsoon.

ILLAM, Jan 27: Two persons were killed in a road accident in Ilam district this morning.
The deceased have been identified as Ramesh Thapa, 55, and Surya Bahadur Thapa, 40, of Mechinagar municipality-4 in the district, said Information Officer at the District Police Office, Ganga Bahadur Thapa.
The accident took place when a jeep (Province1-01-001 Cha 7916) heading towards Ilam from Jhapa fell some 500 meters off the road at Rong rural municipality-4 along Mechi highway. Both of them died on the spot in the accident.
The jeep driver Arjun Koirala, 33, of Mechinagar-4 was critically injured in the incident. He has been taken to B&C Hospital, Jhapa, for treatment. Further investigation into the case was underway, added police.
