Maoist SC meeting: Size of provincial executive committee increased

KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN (Maoist Center) has increased the size of the provincial executive committee.  A Standing Committee meeting held on Thursday decided to increase the number of office-bearers and executive members in the provincial bodies.  With this, the number of office bearer positions has reached nine from seven.  Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the party spokesperson said that each of the seven provinces will have a chair, three vice-chairs, a general secretary, three joint secretaries and a treasurer.  Similarly, the 175-member provincial committee will now be of different sizes as per the number of electoral constituencies and local units in the respective provinces.  With the latest amendment, Province 1 will have a 259-member provincial committee compared to 271-member in Province 2, 275 in Bagmati and 229 in Gandaki provinces.  Similarly, Lumbini will have a 253-member province committee while Karnali and Sudur Paschim provinces will constitute 211 and 223-member provincial committees.

Maoist Chair Prachanda’s writ petition to be heard by division bench again

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: A writ petition filed by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is to be heard again by a division bench.  Prachanda filed the petition demanding the Supreme Court (SC) validate the action taken against the people’s representatives at the local federal units elected from the party.  The party had taken disciplinary action against them after they decided to join other parties. The Election Commission (EC) had also declared their positions vacant. The apex court, however, hearing the petition filed by the sacked people’s representatives, ordered that they should be allowed to carry out their regular duties at their offices.  Prachanda, on July 22, filed the writ petition demanding the apex court quash its interim order.  During a preliminary hearing, a division bench had forwarded the case to the full bench. However, a full bench comprising justices trio Deepak Kumar Karki, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Kumar Regmi, on Thursday, issued an order that the case will be heard by a division bench.

Maoist General Convention: Group leaders finish reporting, SC meeting being held

KATHMANDU, Dec 30: Leaders of all 25 groups have finished reporting on behalf of their groups in the ongoing Eighth General Convention of the CPN (Maoist Center).  The groups were formed to discuss the political and ideological document presented by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.  As many as 14 team leaders reported on Wednesday while 11 others presented the comments on behalf of their teams on Thursday.  Shortly after the conclusion of panel-wise reporting, a standing committee began. The meeting will decide how the suggestions received from the groups will be incorporated in the final document.

Maoist Standing Committee underway, to discuss Nat'l Conference

KATHMANDU: A Standing Committee meeting of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) is underway at the Paris Danda-based party headquarters.  The meeting, which was scheduled for 11 AM, kicked off two hours later at 1 PM.  Thursday’s SC meeting will discuss preparations for the upcoming national conference of the party. The party is holding the national conference in the capital between December 26 and 28. “Similarly, the meeting will also dwell on the preparations for the forthcoming provincial conferences slated for Saturday,” said Ganesh Shah, a standing committee member.  As part of the national conferences, the party has accomplished ward-level and local unit-level conferences.  The meeting is also expected to discuss and sort out the issues regarding provincial structures as provisioned in the party statute.

Maoist Center summons SC meeting to pick ministers

KATHMANDU, September 22: The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) summoned it’s standing committee (SC) meeting to select leaders to be appointed as Ministers as the ruling government is all set to expand cabinet soon. The meeting has been called at 3 PM today at the party central office at Parisdanda, according to Ganesh Shah, a standing committee member of the party. “The meeting is likely to pick ministers,” he added. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, backed by CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party, has failed to expand cabinet even after 70 days of his appointment. Meanwhile, PM Deuba has prepared to appoint leader Narayan Khadka in the post of Minister for Foreign Affairs on Wednesday. Nepali Congress, the ruling party, has also called it’s office bearers meeting later this afternoon for the same.

Maoist Center calls emergency Standing Committee meeting

KATHMANDU: Ruling CPN (Maoist Center) has called an emergency Standing Committee meeting.  Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda” summoned the meeting at its Paris Danda-based headquarters.  “The meeting began a while ago,” said Bishnu Sapkota, press aide to Chairman Prachanda. He further added that the meeting is discussing the party's organizational issues.  An SC meeting last week designated in-charges and deputy in-charges of seven provinces and chiefs of the district coordination committees.

Four ex Maoist lawmakers move court demanding reinstatement

KATHMANDU, July 28: Four former lawmakers of CPN (Maoist Center) have knocked at the door of Supreme Court (SC) demanding the reinstatement of their position as the member of House of Representatives (HoR).  Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Lekhraj Bhatta, Prabhu Bhatta and Gaurishankar Chaudhary, who were elected from the CPN (Maoist Center) filed a writ petition at the apex court on Wednesday demanding the court to reinstate them as the lawmakers.  They said that they were suspended from the membership of parliament even without being sought any clarification.  The four MPs were sacked by the Maoist Center after they decided to join the CPN-UML following the Supreme Court’s March 7 order to invalidate the merger of UML and Maoist to form the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP).  The cause list has been scheduled for Thursday.

UML expands its Standing Committee, four ex Maoist leaders included

KATHMANDU, June 30: CPN-UML has expanded its Standing Committee.  In the recent expansion, four former leaders of the CPN (Maoist Center), who opted to join the UML after the Supreme Court (SC) on March 7 invalidated the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP), have also been included in the committee. Former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Lekhraj Bhatta and Mani Thapa have been added in the committee.  Similarly, Raghubir Mahaseth, Bishnu Rimal, Beduram Bhusal and Raghu Panta have also been included.  UML Spokesperson Pradeep Gyawali said that the Standing Committee members of the erstwhile NCP have been given space in the party’s similar committee.  Meanwhile,the party also dissolved its 10th General Convention Organizing Committee.  UML is scheduled to hold its Central Committee meeting on July 2.
