KATHMANDU, Jan 15: The Nepali Congress has shown concern over the construction of a roadway by India in Lipulekh.
Issuing a press statement on Friday, general secretaries of the NC duo Gagan Kumar Thapa and Gagan Kumar Thapa said that the construction of roadway by India in Lipulekh is against the agreement of reaching consensus on any disputed issue between the two countries via diplomatic dialogue, which made in the Nepal-India Joint Commission.
“The roadway construction is serious, condemnable and should be stopped soon.
"NC is clear that Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani belong to Nepali territory so Nepal holds its ownership. The Indian Army should leave Kalapani.
"The border issues between Nepal and India should be addressed via high-level diplomatic medium and based on historical facts.”
They also drew attention to the statement Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made on the construction of a roadway undergoing in the Lipulekh area.

KATHMANDU: Vote-counting for the central executive committee of the grand old Nepali Congress (NC) is still underway at the Sanepa, Lalitpur-based party head office.
However, a 13-member office bearers’ team has got the final shape as vote-count for joint general secretaries came to an end on Friday afternoon.
Sher Bahadur Deuba has been elected for the second straight term as the party president. He reclaimed his victory in a run-off defeating Dr Shekhar Kolirala.
Deuba, the five-time prime minister and also a serving executive head of the state, holds a comfortable majority in the team of 13 office bearer positions.
Except for a vice-president (Dhanraj Gurung), two general secretaries (Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma) and two joint general secretaries (Jivan Pariyar and Badri Pandey), all other office bearers belong to his panel. Though Bishwa Prakash Sharma, one of the two general secretaries, was considered close to the Deuba camp, was fielded by the Prakash Man Singh panel.
Other office bearers include Purna Bahadur Khadka (vice-president), Kishor Singh Rathor, Malalaxmi Upadhyay, Farmullah Mansoor, Umakanta Chaudhary, Mahendra Yadav and Bhishmaraj Angdembe (joint general secretaries).
The team, except for Deuba and Khadka, has all new members. While Deuba completed his first tenure as the party tenure (2016-2021), Khadka was one of two general secretaries in the Deuba-led team.
Thapa contested for the same position in the 2016 general convention, however, lost to Dr Shahshank Koirala.
Sharma has been serving as party spokesperson since 2018, however, has not held any executive position except for the central committee member.

KATHMANDU: Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma have been elected the general secretaries of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC).
According to the vote-count result on Thursday afternoon, Thapa secured 2,823 and Sharma got 1,824 out of 4,290 votes tallied.
The voting for the NC executive committee was held on Monday.

Thapa and Rijal were fielded as general secretary candidates by the Shekhar Koirala panel. Koirala, however, lost the presidential election to Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Mahat and Poudel are the candidates from the Deuba panel, Sharma from the Prakash Man Singh camp and Karki from the Bimalendra Nidhi faction.
KATHMANDU, December 16: The vote count for the post of the General Secretary of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) in the 14th General Convention of the party is to begin this morning.
As per the party statute, voting for the posts of two general secretaries were held earlier on Monday.
According to the central election committee of the party, the vote count is scheduled to begin at 9 AM this morning at party headquarters at Sanepa in Kathmandu.
Leaders Gagan Thapa, Dr Prakash Saran Mahat, Pradip Poudel, Dr Minendra Rijal, Dr Rajaram Karki and Biswaprakash Sharma are vying for the post.
As many as 4,743 delegates cast their votes on Monday to elect 13 office bearers and 134 central members.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has already been elected the President of the party for the second time. Likewise, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung have been elected the Vice Presidents of the party.
The 13 office bearers of the party includes one President, two Vice Presidents, two general secretaries and eight deputy general secretaries.
