Election Commission expedites preparations for local level polls

KATHMANDU, Feb 3: A couple of days after its office bearers called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday, the Election Commission (EC) has expedited necessary preparations in regard to the local level elections.  During Tuesday’s meeting, the poll body proposed holding the elections in the 753 local levels on May 18 later this year.  The election body has geared up its preparatory tasks as PM Deuba, during Tuesday’s discussions, said that the government would announce the poll date as per its recommendation.  According to EC spokesperson Shaligram Poudel, they will unveil the calendar of events of the local polls within three days after the government announced the date.  “We are carrying out necessary tasks ahead of the announcement of the poll date,” said Poudel.  Click here to read the news in detail.
