Nepali woman reportedly sold in Cambodia

KATHMANDU, July 8: A Nepali woman, who was allegedly sold off in Cambodia, has filed a report with the Human Trafficking Bureau demanding action against the traffickers.  A group of human traffickers including one Kisan Rai from Dhankuta has been accused of taking the woman to Cambodia where she was reportedly sold off under the pretexts of providing her a construction job that would fetch Rs 100,000 a month, said the police.  The woman was contacted through social networking site, facebook, before she became a victim. Now Rai has been arrested acting on a report filed by the victim.  The victim gave Rs 450,000 to Rai for taking her to Cambodia. Rai took the woman via the Kathmandu-Kakarvitta route in Nepal and Assam-Nagaland-Manipur route in India from where she was taken on foot through Thailand to reach Cambodia, said the police.  In Cambodia, the victim was sold off under the pretexts that she had to cook and serve foods to Chinese nationals, according to the police report filed by the victim. Investigations are underway, said Superintendent of Police Anurag Kumar Dwivedi.

Nepali woman scales Mt Dhaulagiri

MYAGDI, October 1: A Nepali woman mountaineer and 19 other team members have scaled world's eighth tallest peak, Mount Dhaulagiri, at 5:00 this morning. This is the first successful ascent to the Mt Dhaulagiri from a Nepali woman. Purnima Shrestha climbed the 8,167-metre peak located at Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 in Myagdi district. Shrestha and her team had left for Mt Dhaulagiri on September 18 from Marpha of Mustang district with the management of Seven Summit Trekking Company, Kathmandu. Trekking Company's proprietor Mingma Sherpa said, "This is the first ascent to Mt Dhaulagiri by a Nepali woman. Prior to this, there is no record of Nepali woman climbing to Mt Dhaulagiri before." Sherpa, however, said that it is yet to be confirmed whether Maya Sherpa and other members of the expedition team reached the top of Mt Dhaulagiri. Purnima, who is a photo journalist by profession, had climbed Mt Annapurna-I on April 16. Likewise, she has already climbed world's tallest peak Mt Everest, Mt Manaslu and Mt Amadablam.

Nepali woman migrant worker dies in Kuwait

PARBAT, August 27: A 42-year-old woman migrant from Parbat district has died in Kuwait on August 24, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Kuwait. Putali Pariyar of Kushma Municipality-11 in Parbat district had reached Kuwait for overseas employment some years ago. The reason behind her death is not ascertained so far.      Second Secretary at the Embassy Shreekrishna Silwal confirmed that a preliminary report was received at the Embassy of Nepal about the demise of Pariyar. Passport No. 10309317 holder, Pariyar is learnt to have received her labour permit for Saudi Arabia in 2014.      The Embassy said that Pariyar was an undocumented migrant worker in Kuwait.  The family of Pariyar has been urged to come in contact with the Embassy of Nepal in Kuwait for facilitation in the legal processes.
