Although the government has decided to reopen scheduled flights to China, Qatar and Turkey along with the ongoing flights to India, the flights are unlikely for the next few days.

Italy, Portugal to fight for a World Cup berth

LONDON: Reigning European champions Italy and 2016 European champions Portugal could lock horns for a 2022 World Cup spot as they were drawn into the same path in the play-off on Friday. The 12 teams from UEFA were drawn into three paths with the winner of each path to reach the Qatar World Cup finals. Italy will face North Macedonia first in Path C while Portugal will play against Turkey. The winners will meet in one of the three play-off finals held on March 29. In Path A, Scotland will host Ukraine while Austria will visit Wales. The semifinals in Path B are Russia vs Poland and Sweden vs Czech Republic. Ten teams have already qualified for the World Cup finals after finishing top in each group in the European qualifiers. They are Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain and Switzerland.

Limited number of international flights

In further modification to the urgent notice issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on May 31, the government has decided to allow limited number of scheduled flights to China, Qatar, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan for designated airline of respective countries with conformance of specified health safety protocols.

Govt designates 78 hotels to quarantine air passengers

The government has listed 78 hotels as quarantine centres for all the air passengers arriving in Nepal from Turkey, Qatar and India. The government designated the hotels as quarantine after it decided to resume the international flights to and from Turkey, Qatar and India from June 1. According to a press statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Department of Tourism has selected the hotels as quarantine centres. They include seven five-star hotels, seven four-star, 51 tourist standards, and eight other hotels including Hotel Airport, which had already been serving as quarantine, and two resorts, Park Village and Gokarna Forest.
