KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Nepal Police on Thursday arrested rape accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Lamichhane – who was abroad playing tournaments – returned to Nepal via a flight of Qatar Airways at 10 AM today.  Taking to his social media account earlier, Lamichhane maintained that he will be returning to Nepal on October 6 and will legally face acquisitions made against him. Lamichhane has also claimed himself to be innocent. Earlier, a minor girl filed a rape complaint against Lamichhane while he was abroad playing tournaments. Lamichhane has been accused of raping the minor multiple times at 11:55 PM on August 21 at the airport-based Kathmandu Inn Hotel.  As per the section 219 (1) of the National Penal (Code) Act, 2017, where a man has sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent or with a girl child below eighteen years of age even with her consent, the man shall be considered to commit rape on such woman or girl child. If found guilty, Lamichhane could be imprisoned for a term of ten to twelve years, the girl being above sixteen years of age but below eighteen years of age, as per the the section 219 (4) of the National Penal (Code) Act, 2017. Five Bangladeshis arrested in TIA

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Police arrested five Bangladeshi nationals from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu on Tuesday in possession of 1.311 kilogrammes yellow metal akin to gold. The Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Taihidul Tanbir, 30, Md Yunus Ali, 50-year-old Shovan Talukdar, 37-year-old Md Mirajul and 25-year-old Zahidul Islam, TIA's security office said. They were arrested during the security check while trying to smuggle the yellowish ornaments through TIA. Police seized 216 grammes of ornament from Taihidul, 233 grammes from Unus and 100 grammes from Shovan. Similarly, police held 332 grammes carried by Zahidul, 430 grammes by Mirajul. They were trying to board Himalaya Airlines' flight to Bangladesh. The arrested ones have been sent to Customs Office at TIA for further investigation and action.
