Strong winds damage electricity poles, disrupt power supply
The power supply to Bharatpur Metropolitan City, which was disrupted due to strong winds in the district on Friday evening, will take another five days to operate.

KATHMANDU: The power supply to the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium has been cut after it failed to pay electricity tariff dues.
The construction works of the stadium have been stagnated for the past five months. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Bharatpur Transmission Centre on Wednesday disrupted power supply to the stadium for not paying bills.
According to Engineer at Transmission Centre, Rajendra Poudel, the tariff dues have reached Rs 887,000.
The Dhurmus Suntali Foundation that spearheaded the cricket stadium construction works had walked away from its responsibility after facing a financial crisis.
The Foundation has urged Bharatpur Metropolis to take ownership of the stadium saying the Foundation has yet to clear off the dues over Rs 170 million.
The NEA has also cut off the power supply to Mount Everest Brewery as it has yet to pay electricity tariff dues over Rs 3.74 million. Along with this, the NEA has cut off the line of 12 small firms and organizations for no regular payment of tariff.
It's been over 10 months that the residents of Kalikot have been spending nights in dark, due to abruption of power supply. The power supply was disrupted after the Santighat small hydro power project in Triveni rural municipality became dysfunctional.
People in the district headquarters, Manma received power supply for two hours a day with the help of a generator. However, there is no sight yet of regular power supply, said local resident Prem Bahadur Shahi. As a result, daily activities have been affected for lack of electricity.
Meanwhile, power supply poles to connect to the national power grid have been constructed but its no sure when it will come, said Bikram Bahadur Shahi of Raskot municipality-6.
The Santighat project is also being renovated while work is underway to connect Kalikot to the national power grid, said Shiva Chandra Chaulagain of the National Electricity Authority, Kalikot distribution centre.
According to Economic Survey, 2075, more than 73 per cent of the people in Karnali province have no access to power supply. A total of 43 of the 79 local levels of Karnali are yet to get access to power.
