KATHMANDU: Defeating the incumbent Chairman Kamal Thapa in an election held on Saturday during the party’s unity general convention with a margin of 227 votes, Rajendra Lingden has been elected the chairman of right-wing Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
Lingden, the only lawmaker of the party in the federal parliament, secured as many as 1,844 votes out of 3,873 total votes. His contender, Thapa managed to win 1,617 votes, according to Hari Bahadur Basnet, party’s election officer. As many as 431 votes were declared invalid.
With this, Lingden will take charge of the party for the next four years.
