VP Pun extends best wishes on Sonam Lhosar

KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has said that the Tamang Selo song and music of Tungna and Damphu has become an integral part of the folk songs of all communities of Nepal.  In a best wishes message on the occasion of the greatest cultural festival of Tamang community and New Year Sonam Lhosar-2858, VP Pun said that the Tamang Community is rich in language and culture. Remembering that Tamang Community surrounding Kathmandu Valley has separated along with original language, script, culture, traditions and costume, he expressed the belief that Sonam Lhosar maintains harmony, social unity and fraternity among all Nepalis.    The VP further said Lhosar should be considered as the festival of mutual harmony, love, brotherhood, and unity.  Wishing happiness, peace, good health, prosperity and long-life among all Tamang sisters, brothers and Nepali people in the country and abroad on the occasion of Lhosar, Vice-President Pun has appealed to all to celebrate the festival by adopting all safety protocols issued by the government to prevent and control COVID-19.

KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The Tamang community is celebrating Sonam Lhosar, meaning New Year, by organizing various programs 0n Wednesday. According to the Manjushree calendar, the 2858th year starts from today. From today, the tiger year enters after completing the cow year. Sonam Lhosar festival is celebrated every year on the occasion of Magh Shukla Pratipada with various programs.  Sonam Lhosar is divided into 12 categories: rat, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon (cloud), snake, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog and pig. The festival is specially celebrated in different districts of the Bagmati region where people from the Tamang community are predominant. The government has given a public holiday across the country on the occasion of the festival to be celebrated on Wednesday this year.

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: The government has announced to grant a public holiday on Wednesday on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar. The Buddhist community is observing the 2848th Sonam Lhosar, where Lho stands for Year and Sar stands for New, on Wednesday. The festival is observed for 15 days in Sherpa, Tamang and Hyolmo communities. Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced a public holiday in both the government and public offices on Wednesday.
