KATHMANDU, Aug 27: There is a provision for a civil servant to retire after 60 years in Nepal. The government provides allowances to people who are more than 68 years old. But, there is no boundary and age limit for political leaders to contest in the election. Both the young and elderly leaders are busy these days gearing up for the upcoming polls scheduled for November 20 later this year.
PM Sher Bahadur Deuba
He has been contesting elections since 2048 BS, remains undefeated and has been elected Prime Minister of the country five times.
PM Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to contest in the upcoming polls from Dadeldhura district. He has already been elected six times since 2048 BS. So far, Deuba has been elected as a member of parliament for seven times and Prime Minister for five times. Deuba, who was born in 2003 BS, is in his late seventies.
Poudel, 78, is also vying to be a member of parliament
Senior leader of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel is 78 years old. He has been contesting in the federal election from Tanahu from 2048 BS. So far, he has been elected as a member of the parliament six times. Besides, he has been elected as a Speaker of the parliament once and served as minister for various ministries five times.
Foreign Minister Khadka
Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka is also among those leaders who are in their seventies and are still looking forward to being a member of the parliament in the upcoming polls. He was born in Chaitra 7, 2005 BS. He is currently preparing to contest in the federal election from Udayapur-1. So far, he has already been elected thrice from Udayapur and became a minister twice.
CPN-UML Chiar Oli
Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli is in his early seventies these days. Oli, born in Falgun 18, 2008 BS, has been contesting in the federal elections since 2048 BS. He has already been elected as a member of the parliament for six times and became Prime Minister of Nepal twice. He is preparing to contest in the upcoming polls from Jhapa-5.
Subash Chandra Nembang
Leader of CPN-UML, Subash Chandra Nembang was born in Falgun 28, 2009 BS. Nembang has been contesting in elections since 2056 BS. He has already been Minister for Law and elected Speaker of Parliament twice.
In the upcoming federal election, Nembang is preparing to contest from Ilam-2.
Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Nepal
Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of CPN (US) is also in his early seventies. He was born in Falgun 23, 2009 BS. He has been contesting in elections since 2056 BS. So far, Nepal has been elected as a member of the parliament five times. Nepal was also elected as the Prime Minister of the country once. In the upcoming polls, Nepal is preparing to contest from Rautahat1.
Senior leader of CPN (US) Jhalanath Khanal
Jhalanath Khanal, a senior leader of CPN (US) is also in his early seventies. Khanal has already been elected as a member of the parliament for six times and is preparing to contest in the upcoming polls from Illam-1.
He has already been elected Minister for various ministries thrice and elected to the post of Prime Minister once. He is currently 73 years old.
Eldest member of parliament, Thakur
Chairman of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Mahanta Thakur was born in Jestha 13, 1999 BS. Thakur,the eldest member of the House of Representatives (HoR), is also preparing to contest in the upcoming polls from Mahottari-3. He has already served as minister for various ministries several times.
Bam Dev Gautam, 73
Bam Dev Gautam, born in Asar, 2006, has already been deputy prime minister and home minister thrice. So far, Gautam has contested six times in the federal elections – was victorious thrice. He is currently preparing to contest in the upcoming polls from Pyuthan.
Pushpa Kamal Dahal
Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) was born in Mangsir 26, 2011 BS. He is currently 68 years old and is preparing to contest in the upcoming federal election from Chitwan-3. He has already been Prime Minister of Nepal twice.
Babu Ram Bhattarai, 68
Babu Ram Bhattari was born in Asar 4, 2011 BS. He is currently 68 years old and has agreed to contest in the upcoming polls from Gorkha-2 using the election symbol of CPN (Maoist Center). Bhattarai has been successful in being elected Prime Minister once and Finance Minister once.
KATHMANDU, April 18: As the local level election is on our doorsteps, both the ruling alliance and the main opposition party are busy forging an electoral alliance.
Earlier, the CPN-UML had been maintaining that the party would contest in the election against the ruling alliance solely. However, in recent days, UML seems busy building alliances with other small parties.
As the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party have announced an electoral alliance in the upcoming local election, the main opposition party, UML, Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal, Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, CK Raut-led Janamath Party, Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party, Hridayesh Tripathi-led Janata Pragatisheel Party and a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi are preparing to forge a similar alliance, according to UML leaders.
Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal have already decided to contest in the upcoming local polls using UML’s election symbol. Likewise, the UML is all set to offer a similar choice to the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal.
KP Oli-led UML and Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal have already agreed on forging an electoral alliance at Makwanpur, Chitwan, Kaski, Mahottari and Parsa districts.
Likewise, UML is preparing to forge a similar alliance with the Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party in districts of Madhesh Province and a few districts of Lumbini Province.
Similarly, UML and the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal are joining hands in some districts of Sudur Paschim Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province.
Also, the party is looking forward to an alliance with Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party in Karnali Province and in Tanahu with a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi.

KATHMANDU, October 8: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has decided to change its election symbol.
A standing committee meeting held on Thursday took a decision to change its earlier proposed election symbol (book). The party has now decided to make ‘Pen’ its election symbol.
“The party will visit the Election Commission on Friday or Sunday after completing the process to change the election symbol,” said Jaganath Kathiwada, spokesperson of the party.
The party’s decision to change its election symbol came at the time when the party merged with the Nepal Communist Party (Unified)-led by Jeevan Rai.
Earlier, Pen was the election symbol of the Nepal Communist Party (Unified).
