Ex-FinMin Sharma at Singha Durbar to answer questions of probe committee

KATHMANDU, July 21: A meeting of parliamentary committee formed to probe charges against former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma is currently underway at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu. Sharma has also participated in the meeting and will be answering the questions of the committee. Earlier on Wednesday, the committee had a meeting with two journalists who had written news about the involvement of unofficial personnel in the budget preparation process. Sharma has been accused of inviting two unofficial personnel at the Finance Ministry and changing the tax rates. The government then formed an eleven member probe committee following which Sharma resigned from his post.

Maoist Center’s Chair Dahal holds meeting with Bhattarai at Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU, July 19: Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal held a meeting with Babu Ram Bhattarai, federal council chair of Janata Samajbadi Party at Singha Durbar on Tuesday. The two leaders have been meeting frequently in recent days and the Babu Ram Bhattari faction of JSP is preparing to split from the party and launch a new political party. Bhattari has also been holding meetings with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. The JSP has already decided to take action against the Bhattarai-led faction of the party and relieve them from their posts due to which the party is on the brink of split.

Prachanda, Madhav Nepal hold one-on-one meeting at Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Chairmen of two ruling parties --- CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have held a one-on-one meeting at the parliamentary party office of Maoist Center in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu.  Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and US Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal have been holding the meeting where two leaders discuss border dispute with China in Humla and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), according to sources.  The government on Wednesday formed a committee to study the problems related to the border area in the north and submit a report. A Cabinet meeting formed a committee to study the problems related to the border area from Limi Lapcha to Hilsa in Namkha rural municipality of Humla. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Government Spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki shared that the coordinator of the committee will be the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the members will be representatives of the Survey Department, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and border experts. Meanwhile, the MCC compact, which was signed four years ago, is yet to be implemented.  A high-level official of the MCC is arriving in Nepal next week to discuss the compact.
