Kamal Thapa preparing to contest in HoR election from Makwanpur-1

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The government has already announced to hold the general elections on November 20 later this year. With the announcement, political parties and leaders are busy preparing themselves for the upcoming polls. Meanwhile, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal Kamal Thapa is preparing to field his candidacy for the election of House of Representatives (HoR) from Makwanpur-1. Thapa-led RPP Nepal is likely to forge an electoral alliance with CPN-UML in the upcoming polls. It is apparent that Thapa will seek UML’s support at Makwanpur-1 and will support UML in other constituencies.

KATHMANDU, April 18: As the local level election is on our doorsteps, both the ruling alliance and the main opposition party are busy forging an electoral alliance. Earlier, the CPN-UML had been maintaining that the party would contest in the election against the ruling alliance solely. However, in recent days, UML seems busy building alliances with other small parties. As the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party have announced an electoral alliance in the upcoming local election, the main opposition party, UML, Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal, Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, CK Raut-led Janamath Party, Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party, Hridayesh Tripathi-led Janata Pragatisheel Party and a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi are preparing to forge a similar alliance, according to UML leaders. Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal have already decided to contest in the upcoming local polls using UML’s election symbol. Likewise, the UML is all set to offer a similar choice to the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal. KP Oli-led UML and Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal have already agreed on forging an electoral alliance at Makwanpur, Chitwan, Kaski, Mahottari and Parsa districts. Likewise, UML is preparing to forge a similar alliance with the Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party in districts of Madhesh Province and a few districts of Lumbini Province. Similarly, UML and the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal are joining hands in some districts of Sudur Paschim Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province. Also, the party is looking forward to an alliance with Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party in Karnali Province and in Tanahu with a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi.

RPP Nepal to contest in local polls using UML’s election symbol

KATHMANDU, April 13: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Nepal have agreed that the RPP Nepal will contest in local polls using UML’s election symbol. The two parties have also maintained that if those RPP leaders contesting using UML’s election symbol win the election, they will still be in the RPP Nepal. The two parties will also forge an election alliance in upcoming local elections scheduled on May 10. The meeting held between the two parties on Wednesday was attended by Chairman of RPP Nepal, Kamal Thapa and Vice-Chairman of UML, Vishnu Poudel and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel.

Rajendra Lingden announces candidacy for RPP Chairman

KATHMANDU: Rajendra Lingden, General Secretary of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), who is also a member of the House of Representatives (HoR), has announced his candidacy for the party’s chairman.  Organizing a press conference in the capital on Thursday, a key leader of the party Dhawal Shumsher Rana announced that Lingden will vie for the senior most executive position in the party during the party’s general convention.  The only lawmaker of the party in the federal parliament, Lingden will now contest the election with party Chairman Kamal Thapa.  On the occasion, Lingden said that he would emerge victorious in the convention as party cadres are ‘fed up with’ incumbent Chairman Thapa.  RPP is holding its general convention in the capital from December 1 to 3.
