Authentications of people’s representatives either to remain in same or join new party end

KATHMANDU, September 8: The deadline given to the people’s representatives of CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party by the Election Commission (EC) to authenticate their names either to remain in the same party or join the new one after the split ended on September 7. With this, all the people’s representatives of local units and province across the country have chosen their party. Earlier, after the split of the CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party, the poll body had provided 21 days to the people’s representatives to choose their party. With issuance of the party-split ordinance by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, the CPN-UML and JSP split and formed the CPN (Unified Socialist) Party and Democratic Socialist Party. “All the people’s representatives willing to join new parties have authenticated their names during the given deadline, said the assistant spokesperson of the commission,”Komal Prasad Damala. The poll body will now pass its decision soon after the district submits reports regarding the authentication of local representatives. The districts across the country are likely to submit reports within five to six days. According to Keshav Jha, an executive member of Democratic Socialsit Party, as many as 887 people’s representatives have authenticated their names to join the party. Likewise,  163 people’s representatives in Province 1, 298 in Karnali Province, 13 Provincial Assembly members in Bagmati Province and 54 people’s representatives in Kathmandu have verified their names to join the CPN (Unified Socialist).
