Indian national arrested with brown sugar

BHADRAPUR, August 8:Police have arrested an Indian national in possession of brown sugar. Shravan Roy, 28, of Totapada in West Bengal, India was arrested with 21.26 grams of brown sugar from Kichchakbad in Bhadrapur municipality-3 on Saturday, said spokesperson of the District Police Office, Jhapa, DSP Rakesh Thapa. He said that a joint team from District Police Office, Jhapa and Border Police Post, Prithvinagar arrested him with the banned narcotics. Meanwhile, police have arrested Khemraj Kunwar, 24, of Bhadrapur-3 in possession of banned drugs from Hatimara on Saturday.  Both the arrested persons were taken to the District Police Office, Jhapa for necessary action and further investigation, DSP Thapa said.

Tax-evaded sugar seized

KATHMANDU, July 30: Police in Kanchanpur district seized a huge quantity of sugar imported from India by evading tax on Thursday evening. A joint team of police deployed from Sudurpaschim Province Police and District Police Office seized the sugar from Bedkot Municipality in the district based on a tipoff. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Siddharaj Neupane said 98 sacks of sugar were seized along with a truck (Su Pa Pra 01001 Ka 1901). According to him, the seized sugar is worth Rs 318,500.  The police handed over the vehicle and the driver to Gaddachauki Customs Office for further actions. Similarly, the police seized 42 quintals of sugar imported by Bikki Gupta from India after evading tax. Police seized the sugar from Gupta's storehouse after a raid this morning.

Four arrested with brown sugar

KARNALI, June 6: The District Police Office, Surkhet has arrested four persons in possession of brown sugar. The four were arrested from Birendranagar, Surkhet. During a search, police recovered 7.4 grams of brown sugar from Bishnu Devi Shahi, 52, running a hotel at Birendranagar municipality-6, Saru Shahi,21, of Gurans rural municipality-5, Dailekh, Gaurav Chettri and Pradip Khatri of Birendranagar municipality, according to the District Police Office, Surkhet.  Police also recovered other banned drugs and Rs. 508,200 in cash from them. Further investigation is underway. In a similar incident in Kanchanpur, police arrested an Indian national in possession of 11.87 grams of brown sugar. Aman Chand,21, of Uttarakhand, India was arrested with 11.87 grams of the banned narcotics, according to District Police Office, Kanchanpur.
