Nepal receives medical aids from Germany

KATHMANDU, June 8: Responding to the request of Nepal,  Germany has extended support of medical equipment and supplies to help Nepal fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.  Roland Schafer, the German Ambassador to Nepal, handed over the consignment to Sher Bahadur Tamang, newly appointed Minister for Health and Population, at a brief ceremony held at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Tamang thanked German government and people for their support. Hailing the German medical cooperation as a gesture befitting the longstanding Nepal-Germany friendship, the minister stated that the materials would be critical in containing the surge of COVID-19 cases and treatment of the affected people. The German cooperation, being received under the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism, includes 62 ventilators; 27,500 FFP2 masks; 30,000 surgical masks; 100 gumboots; 200 body bags; 5 isolation center tents; and 25,000 liters of disinfectant.

Nepal receives 1.3 million COVID vaccines donated by France and Italy

Kathmandu, Jan 27: Nepal on Wednesday received 1.3 million COVID-19 vaccines from France and Italy.  Added to the 4.1 million vaccines sent by Germany, this brings the number of doses shared by EU member states to 5.4 million, half of the donated vaccines received in Nepal through the COVAX facility.  The French government provided 685,400 doses of Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) COVID-19 vaccine.   Another 663,600 doses of Vaxzevria have been donated by Italy, one of the first countries to support the creation of a multilateral mechanism to counter the COVID-19 pandemic and among the major contributors to the COVAX facility, with more than 385 million euro and 45 million doses of vaccines. These donations are in addition to the medical equipment such as ventilators, masks, antigen test kits, spare parts for oxygen plants and the like donated by 14 EU Member States through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism when the second COVID wave hit Nepal in 2021.

Italy provides health supplies to Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 25: Health supplies essential for the treatment and control of COVID-19 provided by Italy to Nepal arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport this morning. The medical assistance includes 20 ventilators, 6,000 isolation gowns and 10,000 protective medical supplies. The medical goods were given to Nepal by Italy through the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism. EU Ambassador to Nepal Nona Deprez handed over the assistance to Dr Roshan Pokharel, Chief Expert at the Ministry of Health and Population today itself . On the occasion, she said that the Union and its member countries were assisting Nepal to cope with the current COVID-19 crisis, adding that the assistance would help in the treatment and prevention of the pandemic and in the strengthening of Nepal's public health sector. On behalf of the Ministry, Dr Pokharel thanked Italy for extending helping hands to Nepal during these hard times.  He vowed for right use and utilization of the assistance materials. As he said, the materials will be distributed to all provinces. Prior to this, Nepal had received this kind of assistance from  EU members Spain, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Malta, Denmark and Ireland, it is said.

Italy extends support to Nepal to fight COVID pandemic

Germany-supported medical equipment arrives

In response to the request of the Government of Nepal, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has extended support of medical equipment and supplies to help Nepal fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NRNA donated 428 oxygen concentrators arrive

KATHMANDU, June 6: An additional 428 oxygen concentrators bought with financial support of the members of the Non-resident Nepalis Association and diaspora Nepali community arrived here on Saturday evening. The oxygen concentrators were bought with funds raised by the campaign initiated by the NRNA to meet the rising demand of medical oxygen for COVID-19 patients in Nepal. The concerned national coordination council of the NRNA worked to collect funds for the much-needed oxygen concentrators. Accordingly, 150 were received from the UK, 100 from Australia, 75 from Canada, 30 from Germany, 20 from South Africa, 10 from Italy, seven from China and 36 from other organisations,  according to NRNA spokesperson DB Chettri. The Nepali Embassy in Beijing and the NRNA national coordination council, China help procure those concentrators while the Government of Nepal sponsored the transportation cost. Likewise, the NRNA Africa has procured 145 oxygen cylinders and 1,150 refill oxygen cylinders and medical supplies, which were handed over to 28 hospitals in 13 districts from Ilam to Jumla. Meanwhile, with funds collected from around the world, the NRNA is going to set up oxygen plants in all the seven provinces of the country, Chettri added.

German NGOs ready to help Nepal in battle against Covid-19

KATHMANDU, May 14: The Germany-based non-government organisations (NGOs) have expressed interest for sending medical supplies to Nepal as the country is struggling with the surging cases of Covid-19.  Earlier, the government has appealed for the international help in its fight against the pandemic. Taking part in a Webinar organised here today by the NGO Forum, around 60 Germany-based NGOs announced to extend medical support to Nepal under the humanitarian assistance.   The programme was facilitated by the German- Nepal Friendship Association. Nepal’s Ambassador for Germany, Ram Kaji Khadka, apprised the session that infected were finding hard to obtain timely medical care as with the rising of cases, hospitals were facing the shortage of testing kits, ventilators, ICU beds, portable digital X-ray machines, thermal guns, oximeters, PPEs and other equipment crucial for the prevention and the treatment of Covid-19.  Stating that the Nepal Government had sought international help and cooperation in its fight against the virus, the Ambassador expressed his hope of getting support from Germany as in the past.  According to him, the Nepal Government will coordinate for receiving assistance materials to be sent from Germany and distributing the supplies to the authorities concerned. On the occasion, Ambassador of Germany to Nepal Roland Seifer said that there is a need for all NGOs in Germany to come together and provide assistances to Nepal, a friendly nation of the country, in such crisis, he said.  The ambassador urged operation of one flight or two between Germany and Nepal in a way that would not affect Nepal’s economy. The Association Chair and Honorary Consul General to Germany Ram Pratap Thapa said that the webinar aimed to collect monetary assistances by coordinating with NGOs in Germany to deal with health problems in Nepal caused by the infection. President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association Foundation Jiba Lamichhane informed that there had been a call for assistances for Nepal through chapters of the NRNA across the globe and health equipment had been supplied from China and Oman.  Representatives of many participating NGOs in Germany said that they were ready to provide assistances to Nepal and urged the concerned authority to manage flights for the supply.
