Hearing on Alam’s case postponed

KATHMANDU: Hearing over the writ petition filed by former minister and leader of ruling Nepali Congress (NC),  Mohammad Aftab Alam has been postponed yet again.  Though the hearing was scheduled for Friday, it was postponed as asked by the Office of Attorney General. Justices duo Dr Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Nahakul Subedi were to hear the case.  Alam, who is in custody following the orders by the district and high courts for his involvement in the 2008 Rautahat mass murder,  had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court, requesting for his bail.

Hearing begins on HoR dissolution case

KATHMANDU, June 25: Hearing into the case related to the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) is underway on Friday as well. Today is the third day of continuous hearing on the case at the Constitutional Bench chaired by the chief justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana. The writ petition filed by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba with the back support of 149 lawmakers is being regularly heard in the Supreme Court from Wednesday.  In today’s hearing from the petitioner’s side, senior advocate Shreehari Aryal has started the pleading at the court.  Aryal argued that the interpretation of the Article 76 (5) while forming the government by the President was against the constitution. The SC has allocated 15 hours each to both petitioners and defendant sides on the case.
