NRNA 10th AGM in late October

KATHMANDU, July 18: The 78th international coordination council meeting of the Non-resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) held on Saturday decided to hold the 10th NRNA global conference and the 10th General Meeting from coming October 23 to 25. For this, an organising committee led by NRNA chair Kumar Pant has been constituted. Likewise, the meeting decided to hold the coming elections virtually. And hence the delegates taking part in the election will not have to pay any participation fee, said NRNA chair Pant. The nomination fee for the candidates however will apply and will be the same amount as in 2019. The meeting also amended 19 different regulations including the NRNA election regulation, NRNA foundation, financial regulations etc. The meeting endorsed the budget of the NRNA for the year 2021/22.

NRNA to organize singer contest

LONDON, May 30: The Non-resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) is to host the 'NRN the Singer', a talent show to help identify Nepali talents across the globe.  The musical reality show will start from coming June 21, according to the organisers. Nepalis 15 years and above living in all the countries except Nepal and in SAARC countries are eligible to take part in the contest. Senior musician Shambhujeet Baskota, singers Shambhu Rai and Sharmila Bardewa are in the jury, along with former NRNA Chair Jeeva Lamichhane. Speaking at a programme organized to shed light on the event, Lamichhane said the objective behind founding of the NRNA is also to protect and preserve Nepali language, literature, art and culture and the event is expected to be a milestone towards that end. NRNA Chair Kumar Pant said as language, literature and culture are the major identities of the Non-resident Nepalis this event was a priority for the NRNA. Govinda Prasad Gautam, the main coordinator of the event shed light on various aspects of the programme.

NRNA, America chapter asked to collect support

KATHMANDU, May 21: Nepalis residing at different cities of USA have demanded to postpone the convention of America chapter of Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) at a time when second wave of corona virus with new variant is rapidly spreading in Nepal. Non Resident Nepalis, also the member of NRNA America, asked the leadership to help collect health supplies and relief to corona virus victim in Nepal by postponing the convention during this pandemic.    Issuing a press release, they demanded to postpone the convention and laid emphasis on the need of spending the publicity amount to collect health supplies for Nepal, a Nepali Youth Mahendra Subedi residing at California told RSS. The convention has been scheduled for next week. Subedi added that Nepalis as well as their organisations, not only in USA but any corner of the world, should involve in a campaign to save Nepalis collecting support at a time when corona virus is rapidly spreading in Nepal.  The press release reads, “There is no necessity to conduct convention in this difficult hour as NRNA is a social organization, not the political one.” The press release issued by 10 general members of NRNA, America, also called all Nepalis residing across the world should involve to collect support in this period keeping human sensitivity in mind.  The press release also strongly demanded to postpone the convention and conduct in suitable period later.  Subedi, Ashok Khadka, Bijay Khadka, Rabindra Bahadur Singh, Arjun Lama, Dinesh Lama, Dipendra Timalsina, Rajesh Sharma, Aditya Khadka and Sandesh Khada had issued the press statement.

23 Nepalis died of coronavirus abroad last week

KATHMANDU, April 25: Twenty-three Nepalis died of coronavirus infection in different countries including 20 persons in India last week. Coordinator of the Health Committee under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Dr Sanjeev Sapkota said that 20 Nepalis in India, two in Kuwait and one in Qatar succumbed to coronavirus. Similarly, 10 Nepalis died in New Delhi of India while 10 others at different places of India. Most of them are of under 50 years of age.  With this, 372 Nepalis living in 21 different countries in the world lost their lives from coronavirus. Number of Nepalis in 45 countries infected with the virus has so far reached 68,506.

NRNA supports 170 thousand Nepalis during Covid-19 crisis

The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has provided relief assistance to around 170 thousand Nepalis living in different countries. The beneficiaries were from over 300 cities of 50 countries. The NRN unveils the details of rescue and relief it had provided during the global crisis caused by coronavirus.  The Association had ensured the PCR tests of 324 Nepali migrant workers before they returned home. Similarly, 217 people were partially supported for return air tickets.     Those who became jobless, forced to return home for minor mistakes, women, people with disabilities, ill and people with special conditions were the beneficiaries of the NRNA.  The NRN had majorly focused its rescue and relief efforts in Malaysia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UE), Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman where there were more Nepali migrant workers. NRNA President Kumar Pant informed this through a virtual press meet. The returnees were also given mental health counseling and the Nepal government had facilitated in the return procedures of migrant workers.       NRNA General Secretary Dr Hemraj Sharma said over 200 (Nepali) doctors were mobilised across the globe to respond to health issues after Covid-19. Experienced medical forces has been mobilised in the US, the UK, European Union, Middle-East, African and Asia-Pacific regions.
