Police have arrested 13 people during protests against the US Grant Assistance, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). They were detained during an anti-MCC protest in and around New Baneshwor.
KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Police have arrested 23 individuals in charge of enforcing Nepal Banda in Kathmandu earlier on Wednesday morning.
The arrested individuals include two females and 21 males who are trying to enforce Nepal Banda to protest against the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC), according to SP Santosh Singh Rathor of the Metropolitan Police Office.
Of the arrested, Mangal Bahadur Moktan had tried to light a taxi at Koteshwar.
Earlier on Tuesday, following the ruling party, Nepali Congress (NC)’s decision to table the MCC in parliament, various political parties decided to enforce Nepal Banda against it.
KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 15 protesters for showing the black flag to Fatema Z Sumar, vice president of the Department of Compact Operations at the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), from Koteshwor, Kathmandu.
Fatima and her team were returning from Balkot, Bhaktapur after calling on UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the latter’s private residence.
The protesters, most of them affiliated with the Nepal Communist Party, were held as they attempted to display the black flag as a symbolic protest against the MCC Compact.
KATHMANDU, September 3: The police have arrested 10 people protesting against the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) in front of the American Embassy in Kathmandu on Friday.
The arrestees were representing the ‘Scrap MCC National Campaign’ and all of them were males, according to Ramesh Basnet, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Circle.
These people protested in front of the American Embassy at Maharajgunj displaying placards.
Meanwhile, Fatema Z. Sumar, vice president of the Department of Compact Operations at the Millenium Challenge Corporation, is scheduled to visit Nepal next week.
As officials representing MCC are soon to visit Nepal, a huge outcry has erupted among those who are against it.
Not only the general public, but politicians and leaders also have different views toward MCC.
As many as ten persons staging a protest against Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in front of the Embassy of the United States of America in Kathmandu have been arrested.
