Five dead, three missing in separate landslide incidents in Parbat

PARBAT: Five persons died and three others have gone missing in different incidents of landslides in Parbat district. Two persons were found dead and three others of a single family have gone missing in the landslide that occurred at Durlung of Kushma Municipality-3 following a heavy rain last night.  Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shivaraj Budhathoki shared that bodies of 15-year-old Bimala Poudel and 11-year-old Binita Poudel were recovered from the site.  DSP Budhathoki added that a search operation for those missing people is ongoing.   Likewise, police also recovered dead bodies of Durga Poudel, 35, and her 6-year-old son Ganesh in a landslide at Pakuwa in Kushma Municipality-11.  Similarly, Thuli Maya Thapa, 50, of Ambot village in Modi Rural Municipality-5 also died in a landslide.   Police said that heavy rain in the district could have wreaked havoc in other areas too but further reports have not been received so far. Meanwhile, the Helambu Highway is obstructed due to landslides occurring after rain and floods taking place since last night in Sindhupalchowk district. A landslide is taking place at Ratopaharo area of Phatakshila in Melamchi Municipality-13 obstructing vehicular movement along the highway.

Landslides disrupt Parbat-Baglung road section of Mid-Hill Highway

PARBAT, July 9: The Parbat-Baglung road section along the Mid-Hill Highway has remained obstructed for the last three days. Landslides occurred at Kushma municipality-8, Sundarekhola, Chuwabhir and ward no. 2, Nayapul disrupted the road traffic.  Parbat Traffic Police Chief Krishna Khadka informed that it is likely to take a couple of days to resume the vehicular movement along the road section by removing the debris in Nayapul.  Efforts are however underway to re-open the road at the earliest, he shared. With the traffic disruption, travel and transport connectivity has snapped with Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi and Mustang.  Vehicles heading to different destinations have been stranded in Sahasradhara and Kushma Bazaar of Parbat.  Likewise, the Beni-Maldhunga road section linking Myagdi and Mustang districts with the national highway has also not come into the operation. Landslides occurred at Aniyaghat and Jyamire of Jaljala rural municipality of Parbat obstructed the road. Police shared efforts are going on to resume the disrupted traffic movement on the road stretch.

Swept away Vehicle found, three still missing

KATHMANDU, July 7: A vehicle which was washed away due to incessant rain has been found at Parbat. Three people including project manager of Mid-hill highway project office were swept way along with the vehicle are still missing. The missing Hilux was found at Modi river. Flood at Sundar river in Chuwa-8 of Kusma municipality had swept vehicle along with three person. A vehicle was found at the distance of 500 meter from the original location. Among the missing, the identity of two people working at Mid-hill highway project has been confirmed. According to the DSP of District Police Office, Parbat Shivaraj Budathoki, those identified are side engineer Rajaram Acharya and Driver Indra Tharu. They are yet to identify the missing third person.

Fiber falls apart in absence of mid-hill highway office and telecom

GALKOT, April 28: Nepal Telecom telephone and internet services remained disrupted in the districts of Dhawalagiri on last Friday and Saturday. Such obstructions have been frequently occurring in Baglung, Parbat, Myagdi and Mustang districts. The telephone and internet services were disrupted at Patichaur in Modi rural municipality of Parbat district on Friday when the national pride project – Pushpalal Mid-Hill Highway chopped off the fiber network while expanding the road. The telecommunications services have been obstructed in Dhawalagiri in lack of coordination among the mid-hill highway office and other service providing agencies in course of the expansion and blacktopping of Pokhara-Baglung road. Locals have complained that repetition of the same problem has resulted in the disruption of the services. The fiber has been broken down several times causing obstruction to the services, locals said. The Nepal Telecom's fiber network has been placed alongside the Pushpalal Mid-Hill Highway. Nepal Telecom chief Keshab Sharma said problems were surfaced frequently when the mid-hill highway office was expanding road without informing and coordinating with the Nepal Telecom. The communications network has been disrupted for 10-12 hours a week in Dhaulagiri. -
