CAN announces squad for World Cup Global Qualifiers, Sompal, Binod not included

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced the names of the final squad of 16 players for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers. While young batsmen duo Lokesh Bam and Bibek were included in the team, pacer Sompal Kami and wicketkeeper-batsman Binod Bhandari could not make it to the team. Nepal will play under Lamichhane’s captainship: Coach Dasanayake

KATHMANDU, Dec 30: Head coach of Nepali national cricket team Pubudu Dasanayake has said that the captain of the national cricket team will not change. Speaking at a press conference held in the capital on Thursday for the first time since taking over as the head coach, Dasanayake said that he could not comment on the issue as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has the right to change the captain of the Nepali national cricket team. Dasanayake said that he had discussed with both CAN and the players and as CAN is not likely to change the captain, Sandeep Lamichhane will be the captain. It may be noted that CAN had dismissed Gyanendra Malla from the post of captain and Dipendra Singh Airy from the post of vice-captain on November 15 citing disciplinary reasons. The head coach however said that he would act upon the issue of player classification, and make best possible efforts towards that end. He also shared that preparations were being made to invite 30 players to the closed camp training for the World Cup qualifiers.

Sacking captain Gyanendra Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee over disciplinary charges, a board meeting of CAN on Wednesday named Lamichhane the new captain. Nepali cricket team off to Oman to play Triangular Series

KATHMANDU, August 24: The Nepali cricket team has left for Oman to play in the Triangular Cricket Series under the World Cup League-2 with Oman and America. The 22-member team with 17 players boarded the Salam Air plane for Oman at Tribhuvan International Airport today. National Sports Council (NSC) member-secretary Ramesh Kumar Silwal, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) president Chatur Bahadur Chand, CAN treasurer Roshan Kumar Singh among the sports officials bade farewell to the team at the TIA. The Nepali team has Gulshan Jha, Dipendra Singh Airi, Kushal Bhurtel, Asif Shekh, Aarif Shekh, Kushal Malla, Binod Bhandari, Karan KC, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, Pawan Sharraf, Avinash Bohara, Rohit Kumar Poudel, Susan Bhari, Sharad Bheshwakar and Bikram Shob. Gyanendra Malla is the team captain. The Oman Series will run September 13 through September 20. Nepal will be playing two games each against Oman and America under the Triangular Series.

Nepali team for triangular cricket series under World Cup League-2 announced

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced Nepali team for triangular cricket series under World Cup League-2 scheduled in Oman. The triangular series would be held among Nepal, Oman and America. A 17-member Nepali team under the captainship of Gyanendra Malla has been announced. Vice-Captain Dipendra Singh Airi, Kushal Bhurtel, Ashif Sheikh, Kushal Malla, Binod Bhandari, Karan KC, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, Pawan Sarraf, Abinash Bohara, Rohit Kumar Poudel, Sushan Bhandari, Sharad Bheshwakar and Bikram Sob are in the team, read a press release issued today by CAN Secretary Ashoknath Pyakurel. Similarly, main coach Dav Whatmore, manager Mohammad Daud Ansari, technical analyst Raman Shivakoti, physio Bikram Neupane and trainer Rakesh Kashibhai Gohit are also in the team. The team will leave for Oman on August 24 and the series will take place from September 13-20. Nepal will play two games each with Oman and America. Nepal is also scheduled to play a one-day match with Papua New Guinea on September 5 and September 8, said CAN Chairperson Chatur Bahadur Chand. Nepal has already played four games with Oman and America so far under the League-2 and has gathered four points winning two matches. Each team would play 36 one-day matches till 2023 under the League-2. The top three teams of the League-2 would make their position in global selection for one-day World Cup to take place in India in 2023.
