PM Deuba, Maoist Chair Prachanda discuss Cabinet expansion

KATHMANDU, July 27: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Puhspa Kamal Dahal Prachanda have held a meeting.  In the meeting that took place at the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar on Tuesday morning, Deuba and Prachadna discussed the Cabinet expansion.  According to Bhanu Deuba, personal aide to PM Deuba, the discussion dwelt on various current affairs including Cabinet expansion.  Deuba added that expansion of the six-member Deuba-led Cabinet will take some more days as consultations among the parties of the ruling alliance is still underway.  Following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the House dissolution case, Nepali Congress President and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba was appointed PM as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution on July 13. He also won House confidence on July 18 as per Article 76 (6).  Deuba-led Cabinet has six members including four ministers ---- two each from the NC and Maoist Center ---- and a minister of state from the NC.

Maoist Chairman Prachanda authorized to pick ministers from party

KATHMANDU, July 13: CPN (Maoist Center) has authorised Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to pick the name of ministers to join the new government to be led by Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba. A Standing Committee meeting of the party, held at Parisdanda of Koteshwor on Tuesday morning, assigned Prachanda with the right to decide who will join the Deuba Cabinet.  After the meeting, a Maoist leader told Ratopati that further discussions on the issue of government are underway. “Either another Standing Committee meeting or the Chairman himself will make the decision." He added that the party will hold further discussion regarding the formation of a coalition government with the Congress party. Meeting also appreciated the Supreme Court for issuing an order to reinstate the House of Representatives (HoR), which was dissolved on May 22.   The apex court, on Monday, issued a mandamus in the name of President Bidya Devi Bhandari to appoint Congress President Deuba as the prime minister by 5 PM, Tuesday as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal. Meanwhile, President Bhandari is preparing to appoint Deuba as the new prime minister while Deuba himself is forming a small sized Cabinet.
