KATHMANDU, July 21: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has asked Janata Samajbadi Chairman Mahantha Thakur to join his government.
PM Deuba requested Thakur, who is also leading one of the two rival factions in the JSP, to join the newly formed government as the latter visited him and reminded of the party’s demands.
Thakur reached the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar on Wednesday morning.
While thanking the Thakur faction for voting in favor of his confidence motion on Sunday, PM Deuba, who is also the president of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), urged him [Thakur] to be a part of his government.
Responding to Deuba, Thakur said that they could think of joining the government once the procedures to address their demands begin.
Quoting Thakur, a leader of the JSP said, “Joining the government is not an issue. However, we urge you to start necessary procedures to address our concerns.”
Chair Thakur handed over an eight-point demand to PM Deuba. Citizenship issue, constitution amendment, withdrawal of cases against party cadres and leaders, release of Resham Chaudhary and others are some of the demands raised by the party.
