63 percent eligible population of KMC fully vaccinated against COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: As many as sixty-three percent of the eligible population has been given a full dose of vaccine against novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).  According to the KMC Public Health Department, 63 percent of the eligible population has received a full dose of vaccine while 75 percent has got the first shot so far. The KMC has forwarded vaccination campaigns in an effective manner as cases of COVID-19 are increasing recently.  Chief of KMC Public Health Department, Hari Kunwar, said that the vaccination programme has been accelerated for those who are yet to receive their second dose.  The vaccination programme is being run from 11 places, out of 32, of KMC daily while the vaccination programme is being operated at four main checkpoints of entry points to the Kathmandu Valley by deploying health teams, according to the KMC.    Of the total population of the country, 35.9 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 while the first dose of vaccine has been administered to 48.5 percent of the population so far.

KMC to administer COVID-19 vaccines at four transit points

KATHMANDU, November 23: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 at four main transit points – Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park. The campaign will last for a month. The KMC Health Service Department said the vaccination drive is conducted in association with the District Health Office and it will be running for one month at Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park Gongabu.   The vaccination programme that started on November 21 will run till December 20. All citizens completing 18 years of age and entering Kathmandu would be given the jabs on the basis of a certificate showing their age, according to the KMC.  KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said that he was always mindful of the health safety of the citizens, recalling that KMC had provided various medical supplies including equipment and also extended support in resource mobilization to 12 hospitals, including the government and community ones in the Kathmandu Valley during the second wave of coronavirus pandemic. KMC Health Department Chief Hari Bahadur Kunwar said “the Verocell, Covishield and AstraZeneca vaccines would be administered to the target group at all the four designated vaccination centres.”  With this, the programme for administering the first and second dose vaccines against coronavirus infection would be operated at all the 32 Wards of KMC from the designated vaccination centres on November 23 and 24. “People above the 18 years age group and all citizens who missed the vaccination before this and those who have completed eight weeks after getting the first dose would be given the second dose,” KMC Health Department said.

KMC forms 7-member committee for running Covid-19 Special Hospital

KATHMANDU, May 4: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has formed a 7-member Committee to submit proposal to build a well-equipped hospital with isolation facility to control Covid-19 in Kathmandu district. The Committee chaired by KMC ward no 3 chairperson Deepak KC include ward no 6 chair Dipendra Lama, ward no 7 chair Sudda Kumar Dangol, ward no 22 chair Chinikaji Maharjan, ward no 30 chair Dal Bahadur Karki and ward no 31’s chair Narayan Bhandari.  The 61st meeting of the executives held on last Monday had dwelt on ways and means to contain the spread of Covid-19. The meeting concluded that establishment of a well-equipped Covid-19 Treatment Facilities was one of the effective ways to stem the the second wave of Covid-19. The Committee will deliberate on the modality in which isolation facilities will be run, the modality in which the Covid-19 suspected and infected ones will be treated. Furthermore, it will furnish proposal to the KMC so as to build Covid-19 treatment facilities.  The meeting had also decided to rope in health exeprts Dr Ganesh Gurung, Dr Arjun Karki, Dr Anup Subedi and Dr Sharad Onta to join the KMC’s fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
