KATHMANDU, October 3: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has urged all stakeholders for making arrangements for the unhindered use of the internet service. Stating that the internet service has become disrupted at many places of the country due to the haphazard cut off of the optical fibre at various places, the NTA urged for making arrangements for the unhindered use of the internet service.
In a press release today, NTA urged the bodies concerned not to cut off the optical fibre at a time when efforts are being made to resolve the dispute over the rate of pole rent between the Internet Service Providers Association of Nepal (ISPAN) and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) by holding discussions among the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the NTA, NEA and ISPAN. "A highly essential service of the State has been disrupted with the cutoff of the optical fibre.
There is provision in the Telecommunications Act, 2053 BS that says it would be punishable offence if anyone disrupts this essential service. The Authority expresses its regrets over the act of disruption of telecommunication service like this," NTA stated. NTA has called on all the bodies concerned to take legal action against anyone causing obstruction to the State's very essential service and to safeguard such infrastructures, laying emphasis on seeking solution through talks.
"All sides should sit together and sort out the problems through mutual discussions, and we heartly request all sides concerned including NEA and the IPAN to make arrangements for the unobstructed use of the internet service, as only talks are the solution to every problem," reads the press release.
KATHMANDU, September 1: Nepal Telecom Authority and 257 local levels have signed memorandum of understanding with an objective of providing free internet service in the earthquake-affected eight districts for two years.
Out of 656 local levels, MoU has been signed with 257 local levels as a programme to install and operate non-dedicated broadband internet service of at least 20 MBPS at all Community Basic Schools of eight earthquake hardest hit districts and other 66 districts except Kathmandu Valley has been forwarded.
The programme has been brought to increase the capacity and install internet service at offices of all local levels, ward offices, community schools and community health institutions of eight districts mostly affected by earthquake – Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dolakha, Sindhuli, Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga) under the project run by mobilizing rural telecommunication development fund of the Nepal Telecom Authority.
A plan had been forwarded to provide amount equivalent to tariff of two years by installing at least 20-MBPS non-dedicated broadband internet service at around 4,251 places including all community basic schools.
KATHMANDU, August 31: The government has intensified laying optical fibres in line with the ambition set by the Digital Nepal Framework.
Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has mobilized the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund to expand the broadband internet service across the country. Works on it have been completed in sixty districts under 15 packages out of 18. Similarly, fifty percent works completed in 10 districts under two packages.
On June 13, 2016, the NTA had decided to use the Fund in order reach the broadband internet service to the community schools, campus, health post, agriculture centre, tourism centre, each ward and public places. The internet service is launched in four districts via single package with the completion of more than 30 percent of works.
Even the monitoring and evaluation of the six projects was conducted, said NTA Spokesperson, Santosh Poudel. Similarly, monitoring and evaluation of two projects was also underway.
The NTA further said mid-hill highway and district headquarters are being connected to internet under the information superhighway project.
Under the first package (Province 1, 2 and Bagmati Province), works have been launched by forging agreement with Nepal Telecom. As per agreement, extension of optical fibres would complete in two years.
So far, the optical fibres have been laid on 1,006-km (46.16%) length. Under the first package, agreement was made to lay the optical fibres on 2,179-km length.
