KATHMANDU, July 13: Bhanu Jayanti is being celebrated by the Nepalese community all over the world with a whole lot of grandeur and pomp.  The day commemorates the birth anniversary of the great poet Bhanubhakta Acharya. Known as the adikavi, Bhanubhakta Acharya is celebrated for his contribution to the Nepali language and literature.  A garland ceremony was held at Nepal Academy Hall this morning in the presence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to pay tribute to Bhanubhakta Acharya.  Here are some pictures taken by Ratopati photojournalist Subhash Shrestha during the ceremony:

Local level gives public holiday on Bhanu Jayanti

TANAHU, July 13: Bhanu Municipality here announced public holiday on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti today. The municipality decided for the public holiday with due respect to pioneering poet of Nepali language, Bhanubhakta Acharya. All government offices, educational institutions and public bodies are closed after the announcement of holiday today. Adikavi Bhanubhakta was born at Chundiramgha village of Bhanu Municipality in Tanahu on Asar 29, 1871BS. Similarly, he died on Asoj 6, 1925BS.  Although the birth anniversary of pioneering poet Bhanubhakta used to be celebrated for a week with the gathering of Nepali literati from Nepal and abroad, the COVID-19 caused disruption on it for two years. Municipality Mayor Udayaraj Gauli informed that poetry recitation and tribute programme is being organized at the office of Bhanubhakta Birthplace Development Committee today.
