USA-donated 100,000 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, October 25: 100,620 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Monday morning. The vaccine will be administered to the age group of between 12 and18  and people with chronic diseases, according to Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). The vaccination drive is scheduled to begin after the Tihar and Chaat festivals. The US government had earlier provided 1.53 million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines in July.

KMC to administer COVID-19 vaccines at four transit points

KATHMANDU, November 23: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 at four main transit points – Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park. The campaign will last for a month. The KMC Health Service Department said the vaccination drive is conducted in association with the District Health Office and it will be running for one month at Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park Gongabu.   The vaccination programme that started on November 21 will run till December 20. All citizens completing 18 years of age and entering Kathmandu would be given the jabs on the basis of a certificate showing their age, according to the KMC.  KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said that he was always mindful of the health safety of the citizens, recalling that KMC had provided various medical supplies including equipment and also extended support in resource mobilization to 12 hospitals, including the government and community ones in the Kathmandu Valley during the second wave of coronavirus pandemic. KMC Health Department Chief Hari Bahadur Kunwar said “the Verocell, Covishield and AstraZeneca vaccines would be administered to the target group at all the four designated vaccination centres.”  With this, the programme for administering the first and second dose vaccines against coronavirus infection would be operated at all the 32 Wards of KMC from the designated vaccination centres on November 23 and 24. “People above the 18 years age group and all citizens who missed the vaccination before this and those who have completed eight weeks after getting the first dose would be given the second dose,” KMC Health Department said.

China to provide additional 1.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines on grant

KATHMANDU, July 16: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Ambassador Yanqi visited PM Deuba at the latter's official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Friday afternoon. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Yanqi assured that China will continue its support to Nepal in its fight against COVID-19 pandemic including much needed vaccines against the deadly disease. On the occasion, she also conveyed PM Deuba the recent decision of the Chinese Government to provide Nepal with additional 1.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the grant assistance. PM Deuba, in response, thanked the Chinese Government for the vaccine support and expressed hope that China will enhance its support to Nepal for both COVID-19 response and recovery.

KATHMANDU, June 1:  A consignment of 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, which were donated by China,  arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the vaccines and the similar number of syringes were airlifted from Beijing to Kathmandu by a chartered flight of Nepal Airlines Corporation  which were received by the officials of the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). The remaining 200,000 doses of the vaccine, of the total of one million doses as announced by Chinese President Xi Jingping grant assistance on May 26, during a telephone conversation with his Nepali counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari, are being provided to Nepal by the Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, MoFA added.  Accordingly, 50,400 doses of the vaccine and syringes were handed over to the officials of the Health Ministry on Tuesday morning, Similarly, another batch of 50,400 vaccines and syringes is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening. The consignment of remaining 99,200 vaccines and syringes will arrive in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
