Nawalpur sees rise in winter paddy harvest

NAWALPUR, July 19: Nawalpur (Bardaghat-Susta East) has witnessed a rise in winter paddy harvest this year. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, the district this year has seen increment of paddy output by 400 metric in comparison to the last year.  Information Officer of the Centre Shanker Poudel shared the information that 3,360 metric tons paddy was produced in 700 hectares land in the district this year. “The paddy cultivated area has also increased this year”, Poudel said, adding, “Paddy was cultivated in 620 hectares of land last year while it rose to 700 hectares this year”.  He further shared that the area and production of winter paddy have expanded with local farmers getting attracted to the paddy block programme. “We have started executing paddy block programme in Gaindakot-11 and Kawaswoti-17”, he shared, adding that the farmers have increasingly shown their interest to cultivate paddy after they received grant from the paddy block programme.

Farmers get agri-inputs in grants

NAWALPUR, June 13: Agricultural tools have been provided to maize farmers in Gaindakot Municipality of Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat-Susta).  Binayak Agricultural Cooperates Limited coordinated with the local government in the distribution of agricultural tools to maize producers. Earlier, the local government had allocated around Rs 3.6 million grant amount under the Maize Production and Promotion Programme to procure agri-inputs and the fifty percent of the total cost is to be borne by farmers.  Mayor Chhatra Raj Poudel handed modern agricultural tools to the maize farmers. Cooperatives Chair Tilak Kandel said the distributed inputs include rice maize thresher, maize grinder, paddy cutting and electric spare tools and so on.  As many as 135 farmers have been benefited from this, it is said. The cooperatives has also provided 1,400 meters of pipes, seeds and fertilizer to some farmers to help in the water boring system. Mayor Poudel said that the municipality was to provide necessary assistance if the farmers approached it for the same. Though most of the people of Gaindakot are involved in agriculture, a less number of people are coming to the municipality for the subsidized agriculture programmes, said Poudel.

Farmers given paddy seeds in subsidy

NAWALPUR, June 1: Madhyabindu Municipality in Nawalpur district has provided quality paddy seeds  to farmers in 50 per cent subsidized rate.  The municipality distributed the paddy seeds in a subsidized rate after purchasing it through open bidding process. Chief Administrative Officer of Municipality, Narayan Prasad Sapkota, said that farmers from all wards in the municipality have got the seeds. Such an initiative was taken to facilitate the farmers to ensure their access to quality seeds and prevent them from being cheated, Sapkota argued. “The municipality has provided quality seeds in grant as a relief to the farmers,” he said. It is stated that the municipality bought paddy seeds at Rs 72 per kilogram through open tender and provided it to the farmers at the rate of Rs 36. Sapkota shared that a total of 4,500 households were distributed as high as 51,300 kilograms of paddy seeds.  After receiving the quality paddy seeds in time at a subsidized rate, the farmers in the municipality have expressed their excitement.
