Flood sweeps away Karnali bridge construction materials

KARNALI, October 20: The flood-fed Karnali River swept away materials of under-construction bridge linking Surkhet and Kailali. According to the Province Police Office, Surkhet, the flooding occurred on Tuesday took away construction materials of the cemented bridge connecting Surkhet and Kailali. Police informed the flooding took away Gavin wire and mixture machine, among other construction materials of the bridge. Janak Construction Pvt Ltd was awarded the contract for the construction. Even the crane has also been waterlogged. A team of police has been mobilized to collect details of loss and damage after the flooding blew away the construction materials. Likewise, 20 households of Dailekh's Ramghat Bazaar near the river have been relocated with the rise in the risks of flooding. Likewise, incessant rain has disrupted Surkhet-Jumla road (Karnali highway) section in its several sections and efforts are underway to resume the road traffic.

Karnali highway continues to remain obstructed

DULFU, June 20: The Karnali highway continues to remain obstructed since the past one week. The highway was closed for traffic after landslides at different parts of the Dailekh section of the road. The road has been covered with landslide debris in Siyala, Kitubhi, Dahikhola, Ghattekhola and other locations in Dailekh. As a result, vehicles remain stranded while passengers have been forced to travel by foot. Efforts are being made to open the road for traffic but it will take some time as landslides continue to take place with incessant rainfall, Chief District Officer Hari Pyakurel said. Many other rural roads in Dailekh have also been obstructed since the beginning of the monsoon. All the roads leading to the centre of 11 local levels in the district remain affected.  As a result, people are finding it hard especially to reach the sick ones to the hospitals.

Landslide blocks Karnali Highway

MANMA, June 15: The Karnali Highway has been disrupted due to incessant rains for the past three consecutive days. The monsoon-triggered landslides hit the Surkhet-Jumla section along the Highway at several locations, bringing the traffic to a total halt.  Landslides have been reported in Kitu of Dailekh, Gaganekhola, Hulma, Sunar Khola, Pili Serabada, Khallagad and Bhigma of Kalikot.  Chief District Officer of Kalikot, Krishna Prasad Acharya, said continuous rains have made their efforts to clear off the landslide depositions futile. Vehicles en route to Kalikot, Jumla and Mugu carrying daily essentials and construction materials have been stranded on the midway.
