Ruling alliance agrees to form an electoral alliance in local polls

KATHMANDU, March 31: The ruling alliance has agreed to form an electoral alliance in the upcoming local level election. A meeting of the alliance held on Thursday at the Prime Minister’s Office Residence at Baluwatar took a decision to this effect. The alliance’s decision comes a day after the ruling Nepali Congress decided to form an electoral alliance within the ruling alliance as per need. The alliance has also decided to finalize candidates for the sic metropolis across the country from the central level, according to CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Jhalanath Khanal. “Candidates for the remaining local units are to be finalized by the local level themselves,” he added.

Ruling alliance, RPP defeat UML in Damak Municipality

KATHMANDU, May 20: Mayoral candidate of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Ram Thapa has been elected mayor of Damak Municipality, Jhapa. Jhapa is the home district of KP Sharma Oli, the chairperson of CPN-UML and the party was confident of winning there. But to Oli’s surprise, RRP has thrashed UML by 559 votes in the recently held local level polls. Thapa was elected mayor of Damak Municipality securing 17,525 votes while his nearest contender Gita Kumari Adhikari of CPN-UML garnered 16,966 votes. Likewise, Regina Bhattarai of Nepali Congress has been elected in the post of deputy mayor of the municipality with 17,072 votes. Her nearest contender was Ambika Prasad Khanal securing 16,574 votes. The ruling alliance and the RPP had forged an electoral alliance in Damak to defeat UML.

Ruling alliance will win local polls: Dahal

CHITWAN, May 5: CPN (Maoist Center) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the electoral alliance forged among the ruling parties in view of the upcoming local elections slated for May 13 would secure a win.

Ruling alliance finalizes seat-sharing in Chitwan

KATHMANDU, April 22: The members of the ruling alliance have finalized seat-sharing for the upcoming local level elections in Chitwan district. Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party have decided to forge an electoral alliance for the upcoming local polls. Of one rural municipality and five municipalities in the district, the NC has been given four local units while the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (US) have been given one local unit each. NC has been given the opportunity to field candidates for the post of mayor in Ichakamana Rural Municipality, Ratna Nagar Municipality, Khairani Municipality and Kalika Municipality. Likewise, the CPN (MC) will field its candidate for the post of mayor in Madi Municipality while CPN (US) will field its candidate for the post of mayor of Rapti Municipality. Similarly, the posts of deputy leaderships in Ichakamana Rural Municipality, Khairani and Kalika Municipality have been given to CPN (MC), while the CPN (US) has got similar posts in Ratnanagar Municipality. Meanwhile, the NC will be feilding its candidate for the post of deputy mayor in Madi Municipality.   Earlier, the ruling alliance had already agreed to field a candidate of CPN (MC) for the post of mayor in Bharatpur metropolis and candidate of NC for deputy mayor.

Local Polls 2022: Ruling alliance Vs UML’s seven party electoral alliance

KATHMANDU, April 18: As the local level election is on our doorsteps, both the ruling alliance and the main opposition party are busy forging an electoral alliance. Earlier, the CPN-UML had been maintaining that the party would contest in the election against the ruling alliance solely. However, in recent days, UML seems busy building alliances with other small parties. As the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party have announced an electoral alliance in the upcoming local election, the main opposition party, UML, Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal, Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, CK Raut-led Janamath Party, Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party, Hridayesh Tripathi-led Janata Pragatisheel Party and a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi are preparing to forge a similar alliance, according to UML leaders. Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal-led Pariwar Dal have already decided to contest in the upcoming local polls using UML’s election symbol. Likewise, the UML is all set to offer a similar choice to the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal. KP Oli-led UML and Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal have already agreed on forging an electoral alliance at Makwanpur, Chitwan, Kaski, Mahottari and Parsa districts. Likewise, UML is preparing to forge a similar alliance with the Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party in districts of Madhesh Province and a few districts of Lumbini Province. Similarly, UML and the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal are joining hands in some districts of Sudur Paschim Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province. Also, the party is looking forward to an alliance with Narayanman Bijukchhe-led Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party in Karnali Province and in Tanahu with a fraction of Nepali Congress-led by Govinda Raj Joshi.
