Govt bans sale and consumption of alcohol

KATHMANDU, Nov 18: The government has banned sale and consumption of alcohol all across the country as the election of the federal and provincial level are scheduled to kick off from Sunday. According to the decision of the Election Commission (EC), the government has prohibited sale and consumption of alcohol from Thursday night. The government has urged all the election officers and security personnel to strictly implement the government’s decision and urged the business not to sell alcohol until the vote count is successfully concluded.

UML accuse ruling alliance of rigging local polls in Madhesh Province

KATHMANDU, May 18: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has accused the ruling alliance-led by the Nepali Congress of rigging the local level polls in Madhesh Province. As the vote count of recently held local polls are underway and results are arriving gradually, the ruling Nepali Congress seems in a strong position winning the highest number of local units so far. The main opposition party, UML, is trailing behind, followed by the CPN (Maoist Center). Organizing a press conference at Janakpurdham, Raghubir Mahaseth, Provincial Incharge of UML, accused the ruling alliance of rigging the local polls in collaboration with election officials at Madhesh Province. Mahaseth also accused the Nepali Congress and ruling alliance of misusing the authorities of security personnel and election officials as per their interests. “The Nepali Congress attacked more than a dozen polling centers, canceled voting and hijacked ballot boxes and fake votes were casted in collaboration of election officers deployed in the area,” he added.
