Tihar celebrations gain pace with Laxmi Puja today

The first day of Yamapanchak, is observed as Kaag Tihar (Crow Festival) and the crow is worshipped and given food. On the first day of Tihar crow is worshipped as the messenger of Yama Raj (the god of Death). This year, Kaag Tihar is observed on November 11. Kukur Tihar, the festival dedicated to worshipping dogs, is being celebrated on November 12, Sunday. People worship dogs by feeding them, putting red vermillion powder and garlanding them. Dog is worshipped as an envoy of Yama Raj the god of death. Dogs since time immemorable have been the most faithful companions of humans, and on Kukur Tihar dogs are revered as the symbol of loyalty. Laxmi Puja generally falls on the third day of Tihar but this year Laxmi Puja and Kukur Tihar will be observed on the same day, November 13. Laxmi Puja holds a special significance for Hindus, People decorate their houses with flowers, lights, and oil lamps and worship goddess Laxmi with the belief that Goddess Laxmi will bless us with prosperity.
