Ghising appointed NEA executive director second time

KATHMANDU, August 11: The government has appointed Kulman Ghising the executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). It is the second time that Ghising was appointed to the NEA executive director.   He had retired from the NEA executive director ten months ago after completion of his four-year-term. According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Ghising has the four-year terms in the NEA.  Likewise, NEA’s outgoing executive director Hitendra Dev Shakya has been appointed the full-term member with the special rank and TOR at the Water and Energy Commission.  A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday took a decision to this regard.    The KP Sharma Oli-led government decided not to continue Ghising for a second term in the NEA though there was a demand from the civic level for his reappointment.   The Ministry said the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government decided to bring Ghising to the NEA second time with the hope of seeing his outstanding performance.  He was first appointed the NEA executive director by the then government led by CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.   Ghising was widely remembered by the public for his successful leadership in the NEA during the first term as he was credited for liberating the NEA from 28 billion accumulated loss, taking the organisation to profit. He had been able to completely free the people of the hours-long power outage problem while he was in office.
