Locals threaten KMC with disruption in dumping of garbage in Banchare Danda landfill site if demands not met within 15 days

KATHMANDU, April 20: Two local governments have warned that if the agreement reached with the people of Banchare Danda is not implemented, they will not allow the dumping of Kathmandu’s garbage in the Banchare Danda landfill site after 15 days.

Locals take slingshots to hills to stop garbage trucks from Valley

KATHMANDU, August 16: The locals of Banchare Danda again stopped the vehicles carrying garbage from the Kathmandu Valley to the landfill site early this morning. Garbage trucks have reached Sisdol. Naveen Manandhar, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), said that police will be mobilized from Nuwakot today as well to dispose of the garbage.

Waste piles up in Kathmandu as Nuwakot locals obstruct disposal

Garbage collection has been halted in Kathmandu Valley for more than a week now, creating heaps of garbage on the streets of the city and foul smell in the air. Major streets of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Lalitpur are now littered with piles of garbage dumped by households, shops, hotels, businesses and offices. Locals along the Pasang Lhamu Highway, the road leading to Sisdole landfill site, have been obstructing garbage disposal for the last one week, putting forth demand to upgrade the highway.
