Health workers from KAHS leaving for Bheri Hospital to assist in treatment

KHALANGA, May 2: A team of health workers comprising doctors from Jumla-based Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, Teaching Hospital, is going to Nepalgunj today to assist after Covid ward of Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj faced acute shortage of human resources. The team under the leadership of Chief of the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care of the Academy, Dr Prabin Giri, is leaving for Bheri Hospital, said Registrar of the Academy, Bishwo Raj Kafle.   The six-member team comprising doctors and health workers are going to be deputed after the request of the Ministry of Health and Population.  Preparation has been made to leave for Nepalgunj if flight takes place. Dr Giri said, “We will assist in treatment of patients in Bheri Hospital staying there around 10 to 14 days.” The government has formed a team at the Karnali Academy of Health Science, Teaching Hospital, for the treatment and management of coronavirus. The team would reach and help there where there is problem. Such team is mobilized for certain period. More than 73 health workers of Bheri Hospital have been infected with the virus so far.  Some of the coronavirus infected health workers are even involved in treatment of other infected people in lack of human resources, according to the Bheri Hospital.

Doctor, health workers attacked at Bheri Hospital

BANKE, May 28: Relatives of a patient, who died  on Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at the Nepalgunj-based Bheri Hospital, have assaulted the health workers and doctors of the hospital. The patient from Dang district was admitted to the hospital on May 18 and died while being treated in ventilator support. Chairman of Bheri Hospital Development Committee Pramod Dhital said relatives of the deceased thrashed a doctor and four nursing staff blaming the medics for the death of the patient.  Dr Chandra Prakash Sahu and nursing staff Asmini Gurung and Sadiksha Gaire were misbehaved by the deceased’s son and two brothers.     Dhital said that the patient died despite continued efforts of the doctors to save the patient.  After the death of the patient, the relatives also vandalised the ICU ward of the hospital while the health workers managed to save their lives by escaping the attack, hospital’s Nursing Officer Shila Sharma said.   Meanwhile, the health workers in the hospital have asked the administration to ensure their security and actions against the perpetrators.

Investigation into Bheri Hospital incident underway: Home Ministry

KATHMANDU, May 28:The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has said that  investigation into the incident that took place at the Nepalgunj-based Bheri Hospital on Wednesday evening has begun.  According to the ministry, a seven-member investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of the assistant chief district officer of Banke to initiate an investigation into the incident. Earlier, the ministry had directed the local authorities to book those involved in similar incidents in Solukhumbu, Dhanusa, Kaski and Morang districts. “Local administrations have also been drawn attention to ensure safety of all the frontline workers,” said the ministry.  Relatives of a patient, who died  on Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at the Nepalgunj-based Bheri Hospital, assaulted the health workers and doctors of the hospital.

49 coronavirus infected serious at Bheri Hospital

Forty-nine persons infected with coronavirus who are receiving treatment at Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj have become serious.  Among 74 infected ones receiving treatment at Covid-19 ward, 49 have critical condition while seven are being treated with ventilator support, according to Tej Oli, resource persons at district Covid-19 crisis management centre. Banke district alone has recorded 59 fatalities due to Covid-19 while the total death in the district has reached 93. Currently, there are 282 active positive cases of infection.  This morning, a 31-year-old man from Gurbhakot Municipality-13 of Surkhet died from Covid-19 during treatment at Bheri Hospital. The man returned from India a week back was tested positive for coronavirus, resource person Oli added. In this connection, the district crisis management centre has decided to set up and operate 50-bed isolation centre in each local level, resume the isolation centres with 120 beds in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis, ensure an ambulance standby at each local level, augment human resources to manage 142 isolation wards at Bheri Hospital and arrange holding centres, according to Chief District Officer Shiva Ram Gelal.
