Final phase works on the 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project are moving in full swing.
Minor civil and mechanical works of dams, tunnels, transmission lines, substations and other structures are moving being carried out.
KATHMANDU, August 23: The government in 2009 announced that the 456-MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project would be constructed at a cheaper cost recorded till then. A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Company Limited held on March 20, 2009 decided to move ahead with the project with a plan to complete it within five years at the cost of Rs 48 billion including interest.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inaugurated the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project — the national pride project of the country. The prime minister inaugurated the project virtually amidst a function organised at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar.
Kathmandu. With the 456-MW Upper Tamakoshi hydropower project coming into operation, there emerges public concerns what and how the much-awaited national pride project would impact the national economy.
The 76 MW power of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project being constructed in Bigu Rural Municipality-1 of Dolakha will be connected to the national grid.
About 76 megawatts of electricity generated from a unit of the total 456-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project under construction with domestic investment will be connected to the national transmission line from Monday.
Testing of the tunnel of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectricity Project successfully completed on Sunday. The project had started to fill the tunnel since April 29.
KATHMANDU, June 26: The much-awaited national pride project, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, is all set to come online within July 15. It will start generating 152 megawatts electricity.
Necessary preparations have reached the final stage for producing electricity from two units of the Project within July 15.
Project spokesperson Dr Ganesh Neupane said the trial run of the first unit has been conducted in the first phase and works are on for conducting the test run of the second unit at present. The project would be connected to the national grid after completing the works of the second unit.
The 456-megawatt project is completing nearly 10 years after its construction was started. The project of largest domestic investment has reached the final phase of completion grappling with natural disaster and various other technical issues.
Neupane said that necessary preparations are being done from June 27 to July 3 for feeding the electricity produced from the project to the national grid. According to him, works of managing the transmission line of the project have been forwarded.
The 220-KV transmission line carrying power from the powerhouase of the Upper Tamakoshi Project is being connected to the sub-station located at New Khimti.
Before this, preparations were made to connect the transmission line from this project to the Dhalkebar substation.
The project's reaching the final stages of production has raised the confidence that big projects could also be constructed with domestic investment.
Although the initial cost of the project was Rs 35 billion, it has reached around Rs 80 billion in 10 years due to the increase in foreign exchange rate of the US Dollar and the interest rate, among other factors.
