2,500 tourism sector people vaccinated against COVID-19 in first phase

POKHARA, August 13: Around 2,500 people associated with tourism sector in Pokhara have been vaccinated against coronavirus on Thursday at the coordination of Pokhara Tourism Council.   Council General Secretary Ram Chandra Sharma said that vaccine against COVID-19 was administered to tourism related workers, staffs and tourism entrepreneurs on the basis of priority at five different places of Pokhara.   He shared that arrangement of 500 doses of vaccine was made in each vaccination station.  Similarly, Council Chair Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai said that the government has made arrangement of 2,500 doses of vaccine for tourism sector in the first phase.  Bhattarai opined, "We had been demanding vaccine against COVID-19 with three-tier of government since earlier. We received 2,500 doses vaccine in the first phase."    He further said that they are hopeful that the government would provide vaccine to the remaining persons associated with tourism sector soon. More than 20,000 people are associated with tourism sector in Pokhara, shared Bhattarai.

Tourism entrepreneurs call for vaccination against COVID-19 at the earliest

KATHMANDU, August 18: Leading tourism sector organisations have called on the government to arrange for vaccinating all citizens against COVID-19 at the earliest and protect their lives.  More than 12 organisations including Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), Nepal Mountaineering Association, met with Minister of State for Health and Population, Umesh Shrestha at his office on Tuesday and urged for the vaccination. The tourism entrepreneurs on the occasion congratulated the Minister of State on behalf their respective organisations and wished him a successful term in office. They also handed him a three-point joint memorandum of demands. The demands include inoculating within 30 days the workers, employees and the persons concerned as well as the tourism service providers working in the frontline at the various tourism destinations across the country.  Similarly, the other demands include immediate implementation of policy and programme related with tourism announced in the budget of the current fiscal year 2020/21 and making arrangement for tourists visiting Nepal and immunizing with full dose of vaccine against coronavirus so that they need not stay in quarantine as well as arrangement of PCR test at airport and other entry points.
