Ruling alliance suggests CJ Rana to take leave, designate acting CJ at SC

KATHMANDU, December 2: A meeting of the ruling alliance, the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party, has suggested the chief justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana to take leave and designate a acting chief justice during his absence in the Supreme Court (SC). A meeting held at Prime Minister’s residence office at Baluwatar in the capital suggested CJ Rana to take a leave since he has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and designate an acting CJ in his absence for a smooth operation of the judicial body, according to Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Minister for Information, Communication and Spokesperson for the government. The meeting was attended by PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of JSP Upendra Yadav and Durga Poudel of Rastriya Janamorcha Party. Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana was admitted to the Armed Police Force Hospital, Balambu, on Monday after he  tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Ruling alliance meeting today

KATHMANDU, September 12: A meeting of the ruling alliance is scheduled at 10 AM on Sunday. The meeting will be held at the Prime Minister Office Residence at Baluwatar to discuss the alliance’s strategies and Cabinet expansion, according to Bhanu Deuba, chief secretary of PM Deuba. Meanwhile, the CPN (UML), main opposition party, has been obstructing the house sessions questioning the role of Agni Prasad Sapkota, the speaker of the lower house of parliament. “Today’s meeting will mainly discuss how the house sessions can be conducted amid obstruction from the opposition party,” said Upendra Yadav, chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party. At the time when PM Deuba has been unable to give a full shape to his Cabinet even after two months of his appointment, rifts are likely among the alliance, warns experts. Deuba currently has five member Cabinet including four ministers and a state minister.
