EC to virtually monitor vote count in upcoming local polls

KATHMANDU, March 24: The Election Commission will be monitoring the vote count virtually in the upcoming local level elections. The poll body will be monitoring the vote count through a video live in some of the high political and sensitive zones. “There will be virtual monitoring in areas identified as sensitive by the poll body and security bodies during the vote count,” said Surya Prasad Aryal, deputy spokesperson of the commission. “The commission will be monitoring the vote count in such areas directly and resolve the issues, if any, immediately,” he further said. Besides, the poll body has decided to mobilize a special Information Technology (IT) team to monitor the social media platforms during the election. “If anyone is found misusing the platforms, disseminating misinformation regarding the elections, defaming any individuals or making negative comments, actions will be taken against it,” said Aryal.

KATHMANDU, May 19: Srijana Singh, mayoral candidate for the post of mayor of Nepali Congress backed by the ruling alliance, maintained that she is shocked with the results of the election acquired so far. “We are shocked with the results acquired so far but the vote count is yet to be completed. So, I am optimistic about winning,” Singh said. “So far only 60,000 votes have been counted and Nepali Congress is winning, getting more votes than other candidates in some places,” Singh added.

UML accuse ruling alliance of rigging local polls in Madhesh Province

KATHMANDU, May 18: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has accused the ruling alliance-led by the Nepali Congress of rigging the local level polls in Madhesh Province. As the vote count of recently held local polls are underway and results are arriving gradually, the ruling Nepali Congress seems in a strong position winning the highest number of local units so far. The main opposition party, UML, is trailing behind, followed by the CPN (Maoist Center). Organizing a press conference at Janakpurdham, Raghubir Mahaseth, Provincial Incharge of UML, accused the ruling alliance of rigging the local polls in collaboration with election officials at Madhesh Province. Mahaseth also accused the Nepali Congress and ruling alliance of misusing the authorities of security personnel and election officials as per their interests. “The Nepali Congress attacked more than a dozen polling centers, canceled voting and hijacked ballot boxes and fake votes were casted in collaboration of election officers deployed in the area,” he added. Independent candidate leads vote count in Dhulikhel Municipality

KATHMANDU, May 14: Independent candidate for the post of mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality is currently leading the vote count of the local level polls. Bidur Bahadur Basnet, an independent candidate for the post of mayor of the municipality, has garnered 400 votes out of 900 votes counted so far. His nearest contender was Ashok Kumar Byanju, UML’s candidate for the post of mayor, collecting 343 votes. Meanwhile, candidate of the ruling alliance, Daya Sagar Shrestha collected 12 votes.

Vote count begins in Hetauda sub-metropolis

KATHMANDU, May 13: Vote count of Hetauda sub-metropolis is currently underway. An all-party meeting held on Friday had taken a decision to initiate the vote count on Saturday morning. The vote count is currently being held at Siddhartha Secondary School of Hetauda-2. According to the Hetauda Election Office, the vote count is being conducted in four places in the metropolis. In the local polls held on Friday, 65 percent of total votes of the sub-metropolis were casted.

Local polls: Vote count to begin soon in all six metropolis

KATHMANDU, May 13: Vote count is soon to begin in all the six Metropolitan Cities on Saturday. The vote count of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Bharatpur Metropolitan City are scheduled to kick off at around 8 AM this morning. Likewise, an all-party meeting of the Lalitpur metropolis is soon to decide the time to initiate the vote count. Similarly, vote count in Birgunj and Biratnagar metropolis is also scheduled to kick off on Saturday morning.

NA polls: Vote count begins in Lumbini Province

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Voting for the election of National Assembly members has concluded in Lumbini Province and the vote count has begun. The voting for the election of members of the National Assembly (NA) had begun at 9 AM this morning. A total of 296 voters including members of the provincial assembly and people's representatives cast their votes. Yubaraj Sharma, Rajya Laxmi Gire and Tula Prasad BK have been fielded in the election by the ruling alliance while Ram Dayal Gupta, Barati Khanal and Krishna Sunar are vying for the posts representing the CPN-UML.
