Ruling alliance to hold meeting to make final decisions on Cabinet expansion

Cabinet expansion likely this evening KATHMANDU, October 7: The ruling alliance is currently preparing to hold a meeting to make a final decision regarding the expansion of the Cabinet. The ruling alliance has already reached an agreement on the distribution of ministerial berths and the Cabinet is expected to get its full shape any time soon. The ruling alliance comprises the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party. A preparation is underway to hold a meeting of the ruling alliance but the schedule has not been decided yet, a source at Baluwatar told Ratopati. “The cabinet is likely to be expanded this evening.” The ruling Nepali Congress will get seven ministries, CPN (Maoist Center) will get six and CPN (UML) and JSP will get four ministries each.

Ruling alliance reaches agreement on distribution of ministerial berths

Kathmandu, October 6: The ruling alliance has finally reached an agreement on distribution of ministerial berths for the Cabinet expansion. An agreement was reached during a meeting of the alliance held at PM Office Residence at Baluwatar on Tuesday. As per the agreement, the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) will get eight ministerial berths including the Prime Minister, CPN (Maoist Center) will get six, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) will get 4 each. With this, NC will get the Ministry for Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Health and Population, Communication and Information Technology, Defence and Youths and Sports. Likewise, JSP will get the Ministry for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Agriculture and Livestock Development, Federal Affairs and General Administration and Forest and Environment. Similarly, Madhav Nepal-led Unified Socialist will get the Ministry for Lam, Urban Development, Labor and Tourism while CPN (Maoist Center) will get the MInistry for Finance, Energy, Education, Land Management and Drinking Water.

Ruling alliance's task force discusses ministerial portfolio division

KATHMANDU: Ruling alliance has expedited discussions as the incumbent government fails to give it the Cabinet a full shape even after nearly two months of its formation.  A task force formed to formulate the government’s common minimum program has been holding a meeting at the official residence of the prime minister on Friday evening. According to the leaders, the meeting is discussing ministerial portfolio division and the ordinance relating to the political parties'split.  Earlier, the Cabinet expansion could reach the conclusion due to disputes over the ordinance which the government introduced on August 17. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur had even asked his coalition partners to finalize the names of prospective ministers from the respective parties.  The task force, headed by Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, comprises Ramesh Lekhak, Minendra Riajl from NC, Barshaman Pun and Dev Gurung from CPN (Maoist Center) while Mahendra Raya Yadav and Rajendra Shrestha from Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the five coalition partners held a meeting on Sunday.  The meeting, held at the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar, dwelt mainly on the issue of Cabinet expansion.  The leaders, however, failed to forge concrete consensus, leaving Cabinet expansion in limbo.  Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who was appointed prime minister on July 13 following the Supreme Court’s mandamus, is yet to form a full-sized Cabinet. The Deuba-led Cabinet has six members including Deuba himself.

Ruling alliance meeting today

KATHMANDU, September 12: A meeting of the ruling alliance is scheduled at 10 AM on Sunday. The meeting will be held at the Prime Minister Office Residence at Baluwatar to discuss the alliance’s strategies and Cabinet expansion, according to Bhanu Deuba, chief secretary of PM Deuba. Meanwhile, the CPN (UML), main opposition party, has been obstructing the house sessions questioning the role of Agni Prasad Sapkota, the speaker of the lower house of parliament. “Today’s meeting will mainly discuss how the house sessions can be conducted amid obstruction from the opposition party,” said Upendra Yadav, chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party. At the time when PM Deuba has been unable to give a full shape to his Cabinet even after two months of his appointment, rifts are likely among the alliance, warns experts. Deuba currently has five member Cabinet including four ministers and a state minister.

KATHMANDU: At a time Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is facing criticism for inordinate delay in forming a full-fledged Cabinet, the top brass of the ruling alliance have held a meeting at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.  The meeting, held on Thursday afternoon, dwelt on Cabinet expansion, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and strategies in the upcoming House meetings.  The meeting also analyzed Wednesday’s House obstruction by main opposition CPN-UML.  Shortly after the meeting, Durga Poudel, vice-chairperson of Rastriya Janamorcha said that the meeting did not take any crucial decisions though it discussed various matters.  Speaking during the meeting, PM Deuba urged the leaders of the ruling alliance to facilitate Cabinet expansion and resolve the respective issues.

KATHMANDU, August 30: The ruling alliance of five political parties are currently holding a meeting at the Prime Minister Office Residence at Baluwatar. The meeting is likely to discuss the expansion of the Council of Ministers, budget introduced through ordinance, appointments in constitutional councils, Jay Singh Dami incident, release of Resham Chaudhary among many others. The ruling alliance includes the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN ( Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party. The meeting has been attended by Prime Minister and President of NC, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of Maoist Center, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN ( Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of JSP, Upendra Yadav and Chairman of federal council of JSP, Dr Baburam Bhattarai among other leaders.

Ruling alliance decides to make government business effective

KATHMANDU, July 25: A meeting of the ruling party alliance on Saturday decided to make the government business effective.  The meeting of five parties held at the prime minister's official residence on Saturday evening  took the decision of working in unison to run the government smoothly and effectively.   Press coordinator of CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Bishnu Sapkota, shared that agendas relating to Cabinet expansion, latest political updates, pandemic control, future plan and programs of the government among others were discussed in the meeting.  The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Dahal, CPN (UML) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Janata Samajbadi Party Chair UpendraYadav and Rastriya Janamorcha Party Chair Chitra Bahadur KC.  Prior to this, Chair Dahal and leader Nepal had held discussion on the latest political development at latter’s residence in Koteshwar on Saturday itself.
