Jumla landslide victims’ family to get compensation

Officials have travelled to Acharyalihi, Hima Rural Municipality–1, in Jumla, where a landslide killed three persons of the same family on Thursday night. Chairman of the District Coordination Committee Gaurinanda Acharya, Chairman of Hima Rural Municipality Laxman Bahadur Shahi, Chief District Officer (CDO) Bijaya Kumari Prasain, heads of security agencies and representatives from the Federation of Nepali Journalists, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and other non-governmental organisations present in the district visited the site where the powerhouse of the Bhitri River micro-hydropower project was washed away and inspected the damage.

One dead, 10 hurt in Sankhuwasabha accident

KIMATHANKA, September 5: A person was killed and ten others were injured in a truck accident occurred at Chichila rural municipality-1 in Sankhuwasabha district last night.    A mini truck (Province 1-02-001 Kha 8083) met with the accident at Patle of Chichila-1. It was en route to Khandbari from Phyaksinda of Makalu rural municipality-5 after transporting vegetables. The dam site of Arun III hydropower project is based in Makalu-5. Driver Janak Pandey, 29, of Leguwa of Mahalaxmi municipality-6, Dhankuta district died on the spot, according to District Police Office Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Laldhwaj Subedi. Among those injured in the accident, condition of three is said to be critical. They are Bablu Magar, 29, of Khandbari municipality-7, Rahul Malakar, 32, and Rocky Kumar from Assam, India.   They were rushed to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, following the rescue.  The body of the driver was retrieved it got trapped under the truck this morning and was brought to the District Hospital, Khandbari for a post-mortem.  Among the injured, eight Indian nationals are the workers for the Arun Hydropower Project.  Three among the injured have already returned home after treatment.

Three killed due to flood, landslide

DARCHULA, August 30: Three people have died and two have gone missing due to the flood and landslide in various parts of Darchula district.  The flooding and landslip occurred following incessant rain on Sunday night has damaged the physical infrastructures as well as human casualties in various places of Duhun rural municipality and Mahakali municipality. Narsingh Mahar and his wife Kausha Mahar were killed when landslide buried their house at Baspalika of Duhun rural municipality. The landslide occurred in the night when the couple was asleep, Deputy Superintendent of Police Manohar Prasad Bhatta said.  Similarly, Manuwa Dadal was killed due to flood at Dulla of Duhun rural municipality-5. The flood in the local Kalagad rivulet which occurred at around 10 pm swept away Dadal's house. The flood has also damaged bridges, micro hydropower plants, and watermill. Cattle also perished due to the flooding. The flood damaged five shops, two hydropoerr projects, four suspension bridges and a cement and concrete bridge in the area. Similarly, two pople have gone missing after they were swept away by flood at Nijanggad, Ward No 3 of the rural municipality. Those missing are Sher Singh Karki and Harak Singh Karki.  The flooded Nijanggad rivulet has washed away and damaged  an RCC bridge and two suspension bridges on the Darchula-Tinkar road section.
