63 percent eligible population of KMC fully vaccinated against COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: As many as sixty-three percent of the eligible population has been given a full dose of vaccine against novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).  According to the KMC Public Health Department, 63 percent of the eligible population has received a full dose of vaccine while 75 percent has got the first shot so far. The KMC has forwarded vaccination campaigns in an effective manner as cases of COVID-19 are increasing recently.  Chief of KMC Public Health Department, Hari Kunwar, said that the vaccination programme has been accelerated for those who are yet to receive their second dose.  The vaccination programme is being run from 11 places, out of 32, of KMC daily while the vaccination programme is being operated at four main checkpoints of entry points to the Kathmandu Valley by deploying health teams, according to the KMC.    Of the total population of the country, 35.9 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 while the first dose of vaccine has been administered to 48.5 percent of the population so far.

KMC to administer COVID-19 vaccines at four transit points

KATHMANDU, November 23: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 at four main transit points – Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park. The campaign will last for a month. The KMC Health Service Department said the vaccination drive is conducted in association with the District Health Office and it will be running for one month at Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park Gongabu.   The vaccination programme that started on November 21 will run till December 20. All citizens completing 18 years of age and entering Kathmandu would be given the jabs on the basis of a certificate showing their age, according to the KMC.  KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said that he was always mindful of the health safety of the citizens, recalling that KMC had provided various medical supplies including equipment and also extended support in resource mobilization to 12 hospitals, including the government and community ones in the Kathmandu Valley during the second wave of coronavirus pandemic. KMC Health Department Chief Hari Bahadur Kunwar said “the Verocell, Covishield and AstraZeneca vaccines would be administered to the target group at all the four designated vaccination centres.”  With this, the programme for administering the first and second dose vaccines against coronavirus infection would be operated at all the 32 Wards of KMC from the designated vaccination centres on November 23 and 24. “People above the 18 years age group and all citizens who missed the vaccination before this and those who have completed eight weeks after getting the first dose would be given the second dose,” KMC Health Department said.

KATHMANDU, October 8: In its bid to immunize all citizens above 18 years old against COVID-19, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is running a vaccination campaign from today targeting the Dashain festival. The ward vaccination centres in all 32 wards in the KMC and some additional centres will administer the first dose of Vero Cell until October 10.   In addition to the 32 vaccination centres, the first dose of Vero Cell will be administered from Nepal Police Hospital, Bir Hospital, Civil Service Hospital, Paropakar Hospital and Birendra Military Hospital, according to Chief of the Public Health Department of KMC, Hari Bahadur Kunwar. “After submitting a voluntary application form, the registered person is requested to come to the vaccination center during the three-day vaccination campaign with the registration card or registration number along with the identity card that verifies the identity of the person,” the metropolis said. The campaign will run from 10 AM in the morning to 4 PM in the evening. (RSS)

KMC re-launches vaccination drive for people above 50

KATHMANDU, July 29: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has re-launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the remaining people above 50 years of age.  Under the four-day campaign that started today, vaccination centers have been managed at all 32 wards, said Hari Bahadur Kunwar, chief of the urban health department, KMC. Vaccines are administered to eligible people from 10 am to 5 pm.   The beneficiaries are required to produce their national identity cards like citizenship certificate, passport or driving license. For the service or those lacking the documents, they need to get a recommendation from the respective local level.  In the district, the number of those who have received the first and final doses of the vaccine has reached approximately 300 thousand, according to available data.

Vaccination campaign halted in KMC

KATHMANDU, June 11: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has stopped the programme of administering the vaccines against COVID-19 to people of 60 to 64 years of age. The metropolis halted the programme citing that the government has failed to provide the Chinese VeroCell vaccines. Earlier it had announced that the vaccination campaign would be continued until June 12. The campaign was launched on June 8. KMC Health Department Chief, Hari Kunwar, said that they had to stop the vaccination campaign two days before as the Department of Health Services, vaccination Division has informed that it could not supply the vaccines from Friday. The first dose of VeroCell vaccine has been given to some 28 thousand people in KMC in a period of three days, according to KMC. The District Public Health Office had provided 32 thousand doses of vaccines to KMC for the latest vaccination campaign and 28 thousand doses have already been used.
