KATHMANDU: Three persons died and 24 others were injured in a bus-truck collision at Nawalpur along the East-West Highway this morning.  A bus (SuPra 2-001) en route to Mahendranagar from Kakadbhitta collided with a truck (Na6Kha 7126) at Gaindakot-10 of Nawalpur.  Deputy Superintendent of Police in Nawalpur, Dilip Kumar Giri, informed that three passengers died on the spot while the bus slid 10 meters down the road after it collided with the truck. The dead ones are two women and a man. Further identity of the dead ones is yet to be ascertained. There were 26 passengers including the bus driver. Three of the injured are in critical condition. Similarly, the truck driver also got injured in the accident. The injured ones have been taken to New Medical College, Bharatpur for treatment, according to DSP Giri.

Two-way traffic resumes in Gaindakot-based highway

KAWASWATI, September 2: Two-way traffic has resumed along the East-West Highway that was obstructed after the monsoon-induced flood took away a diversion in Gaindakot Municipality-23 of Nawalpur.  The highway that was disrupted since last Thursday has come into operation after seven days. The road traffic had come to a halt when a diversion constructed in course of the East-West Highway widening drive was taken away by a flood.  Though continuous efforts were made to bring back the highway to complete operation it was not materialized due to muddy surface with incessant rain.  Two way traffic has come to resumption through the newly-constructed diversion after the rainfall stops. Information Officer of District Traffic Police Office Padam Badu informed that the highway operation has resumed since Wednesday evening after carrying out necessary maintenance.

East-West Highway disrupted in Nawalparasi East

KAWASOTI, August 27: The vehicular movement along the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi East has been completed disrupted as a diversion near 23 Smriti in was swept away following a torrential rain.  Information Officer of District Police Office Madhusudan Singh said that the highway is fully disrupted since 9:00 last night.   The flood caused due to torrential rain has washed away the diversion developed in course of Narayanghat-Butwal road widening campaign.    Singh said that they were facing hardships to immediately resume the vehicular movement as rain has not stopped and the diversion was fully damaged.  Similarly, vehicular movement along the diversions at Gaindakot, Thumsi and Bhedabari has even become difficult. Furthermore, a landslip has occurred in Daunne area of the highway. A team of police personnel has been mobilised to clear the debris in Daunne.   According to police, different areas including Kawasoti, Gaidakot, Devchuli, Madhayabindu, Hupsekot and others in Nawalpur are inundated following the torrential rain.   Information Officer Singh said that details of the losses caused due to flood, landslide and inundation have not arrived.

East-West Highway obstructed with Hume pipe swept away

NAWALPUR, July 8: The Narayangadh-Butwal road section along the East-West Highway has been obstructed following incessant rain. According to Spokesperson of District Police Office DSP Dilip Kumar Giri, the highway was disrupted after the flood took away a Hum Pipe of the road section near Kawaswoti Thanachowk in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Sustapurba).  However, efforts are underway to resume traffic operations along the highway that has been obstructed since this morning, he informed.  DSP Giri said that a diversion will be constructed soon to operate light vehicles on the road in the first phase. Heavy vehicles will be put on hold for some hours till the problem is fixed. A long queue of vehicles is seen on the road along the East-West Highway, he shared.

Traffic not resumed yet along Butwal-Narayanghat section

NAWALPUR, July 2: The vehicular movement along the Butwal-Narayanghat section of East-West Highway has again disrupted from 10:00 this morning. The traffic is disrupted after diversions at Thumsi in Gaidakot were swept away by flooding on Thursday morning caused by incessant rain occurred since Wednesday night. Earlier on Thursday evening, a new diversion was developed to ease the traffic for motorcycles but that too is disrupted after a tractor fell off the diversion.   Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force, Nepal Bir Bhadra nath said that works are ongoing to repair the diversion after removing the tractor in an attempt to resume the vehicular movement. The security personnel are trying their best even to ensure a one-way traffic, Nath added.   As a result, hundreds of passenger vehicles and vehicles carrying goods have been stuck midway. Of seven diversions created to expand the highway, four have been damaged, said police.

One way traffic resumes along Butwal-Narayanghat section

NAWALPUR, July 2: The one way vehicular movement has come into operation from 9am today along the Butwal-Narayanghat section of the East-West Highway.  The traffic on this section of the highway was disrupted for 21 hours after diversions at Thumsi in Gaidakot were swept away by flood on Thursday morning following incessant rain occurred since Wednesday night.  The security personnel were continuously trying their best even to ensure a one-way traffic and got success late this morning after constructing new diversions at the disrupted points, said Area Police Post Gaindakot chief Laxmi Pandey. Pandey added that emergency vehicles and light vehicles were prioritized for their cross movements there. With the one way traffic operation, the road section is witnessing declining traffic pressure of late.
