Know the status of ruling alliance in metropolis

KATHMANDU, May 17: The members of ruling alliance –Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN-UML, Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party – had forged an electoral alliance in the recently held local level elections in 753 local units across the country. Despite the electoral alliance, the ruling alliance seems weak in two out of six metropolitan cities in the country. The candidates of the alliance are currently leading the vote count in Birgunj, Biratnagar, Lalitpur and Pokhara metropolis while Renu Dahal of CPN (MC) and CPN-UML are strongly competing in the race for the mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.  Likewise, Balen Shah, an independent mayoral candidate for Kathmandu metropolis, is currently leading the vote count with a huge margin leaving Keshav Sthapit of CPN-UML and Srijana Singh of Nepali Congress far behind. Meanwhile, the ruling alliance seems strong in other metropolises so far.

NC candidate Koirala tops vote count in Biratnagar metropolis

KATHMANDU, May 15: Candidate of Nepali Congress backed by the ruling alliance Nagesh Koirala is currently leading the vote count in Biratnagar metropolis. Koirala has so far garnered 2,583 votes while his nearest contender Sagar Kumar Thapa of CPN-UML has collected 1,910 votes. Besides, an independent candidate Umesh Kumar Yadav is in third position with 763 votes, Likewise, Silpa Karki, CPN-UML’s candidate for the post of deputy mayor is currently leading the vote count with 1,923 votes. Her nearest contender was Amrendra Yadav of Janata Samajbadi Party with 1,208 votes.

Local polls: Vote count to begin soon in all six metropolis

KATHMANDU, May 13: Vote count is soon to begin in all the six Metropolitan Cities on Saturday. The vote count of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Bharatpur Metropolitan City are scheduled to kick off at around 8 AM this morning. Likewise, an all-party meeting of the Lalitpur metropolis is soon to decide the time to initiate the vote count. Similarly, vote count in Birgunj and Biratnagar metropolis is also scheduled to kick off on Saturday morning.

Vote count soon to begin in Biratnagar, Damak

KATHMANDU, May 13: Vote count in Biratnagar Metropolitan City is to begin in a few hours. The officials there are currently collecting ballot boxes and are preparing to initiate vote count, according to Chief District Officer of Morang, Kashi Raj Dahal. Likewise, the vote count of Damak Municipality is also scheduled to begin on Friday. The ballot boxes are being collected, according to Keshav Prasad Panta, election officer of Dhamak.
