High-level political coordination committee’s meeting underway

KATHMANDU, Jan 18: A meeting of the high-level political coordination committee formed by the ruling alliance is underway at the Baluwatar-based official residence of the prime minister.  According to Ramesh Malla, an aide to CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the meeting began at 9:45 AM.  The meeting attended by top brass of the coalition partners is expected to recommend to the government to announce the local election date.  The meeting was called a day after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Chair Prachanda held a one-on-one meeting on Monday.  The committee presided by Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ramchandra Poudel comprises NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Maoist Chair Prachanda and leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chair Upendra Yadav, Rastriya Janamorcha Chair Chitra Bahadur KC and Vice-chair Durga Poudel.  CPN (US) Chair Nepal, however, is not present in the meeting as he remained isolated at home after contacting COVID-19.

KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Eighth General Convention of the CPN (Maoist Center) has formally been inaugurated amid a grand ceremony held at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu.  Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, on Sunday afternoon, inaugurated the general convention lighting the traditional lamp amid the presence of leaders and representatives of major political parties and delegates of the Maoist party.  Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, General Secretary of CPN-UML Shankar Pokharel and Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal joined Sunday’s event organized at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu.  Though Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ telephoned UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and invited the latter to the event, Oli said he was unable as he was out of the Kathmandu Valley.  Similarly, Chair of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Upendra Yadav; Anil Kumar Jha, a leader of Democratic Socialist Party (DSP); CP Gajurel, a leader of CPN (Revolutionary Maoist) ; Durga Poudel, Vice-chair of Rastriya Janamorcha and general secretary of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Kunti Shahi were among present during the event.  Earlier, a standing committee member Pampha Bhusal, who is also the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, delivered a welcome speech.

Top brass of ruling alliance  holding discussion at Baluwatar

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Top leaders of the ruling alliance are holding a discussion at the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar.  Bishnu Sapkota, press aide to CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ told Ratopati that the top brass of the Nepali Congress (NC), Maoist Center and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have been holding a meeting since 11 AM on Sunday.  Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Chair Prachanda and Upendra Yadav, Chairman of JSP among others are present at the meeting.  The leaders are reportedly discussing the report submitted by a task force led by NC General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka.  Earlier, the  task force formed to prepare a common minimum program for the operation of the government handed over its report to PM Deuba, Prachanda, Yadav and Rastriya Janamorcha Chair Chitra Bahadur KC on Friday.  The report is also being unveiled on Sunday, which will be followed by Cabinet expansion, according to sources.

Deuba, Prachanda agree to run govt based on common programs

KATHMANDU, July 20: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda have agreed to run the government after formulating common programs.  In a meeting held at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, Deuba and Prachanda also reached an agreement  to scrap all the unconstitutional appointments made by the KP Sharma Oli-led government, according to a source close to Baluwatar.  A source close to Prachanda also confirmed that both leaders agreed to run the government effectively  based on the consensus.  Meanwhile, Prachanda and JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav also held separate discussions with CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal  earlier on Tuesday morning.

KATHMANDU, July 20: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chair Upendra Yadav have held separate meetings with former prime minister and senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal.  Prachanda was the first to reach the Koteshwor-based residence of leader Nepal. The two leaders held a meeting for an hour, according to the sources.  Shortly after Prachanda’s exit from Koteshwor, JSP Chair Yadav called on Nepal.  Prachanda and Yadav reportedly discussed expansion of the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet with leader Nepal, who also leads a dissident faction in the UML.  Leaders’ series of meetings come at a time when PM Deuba is preparing to expand his five-member Cabinet as he won parliament’s confidence on July 18 [Sunday].
