Three Nepali entrepreneurs in UK support oxygen concentrators to Tikapur hospital

  KAILALI, May 31: Three youth entrepreneurs residing in the United Kingdom (UK) have aided medical materials to Tikapur hospital in Kailali.  Tanka Bhattarai, a resident of Barhadashi rural municipality, Rajgadh (Jhapa), Ashish Maharjan and Jenis Giri of Kathmandu, who are currently residing in the UK, had raised the support for Tikapur hospital.  Five oxygen concentrators worth amounting to Rs 500,000 were handed over to the hospital on Sunday. The oxygen concentrators were handed over to hospital’s superintendent Dr Rem Kumar Rai through Dr Abhisekh Neupane amidst a programme.

Hong Kong's Nepali expats provide oxygen concentrators

ITAHARI, July 6: Hong Kong's Nepali expatriate community has led an initiative to help pandemic patients in Nepal's hilly districts. Hong Kong Nepali Federation, an umbrella organization of Nepalis living in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, airlifted 100 sets of oxygen concentrators to Nepal.  The organization had launched a campaign called 'Help Nepal Fight COVID-19' and arranged concentrators.  A total of 200 concentrators have been brought from Kunming city of China. Owing to hassles related to air cargo, the organization was compelled to bring in just 100 oxygen concentrators. “We are trying hard to send remaining 100 oxygen contractors,” said Tanka Rana, the organization’s president. He said that transportation cost of the contractors is also financed by the organization itself.   The medical supplies are brought for primary health centers of Nepal's remote areas. Hong Kong Nepal Federation has managed to distribute the contractors in seven districts of Karnali province in partnership with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs).  It is said that the organization has made plan to donate at least one oxygen concentrator to each primary health centers in all 77 districts across the country. The organization is also preparing to send 100, 00 antigen testing kits and adequate number of personal protective equipment to the frontline health workers.

Four districts receive NRNA assisted oxygen concentrators

JHAPA, June 25: Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has provided 25 oxygen concentrators to Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung districts to help in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.  The Association handed over the oxygen concentrators to COVID-19 Crisis Management Committees of the four districts through Mechi Campaign.  Coordinator of the Campaign, Bijay Dalmiya, said that oxygen concentrators have already been handed over to Chief District Officer of the four districts. He said 12 concentrators have been given to Jhapa district while the rest of the districts have been supplied with two concentrators each. The Association provided the oxygen concentrators at the initiative of Nepali Congress Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma with an objective of helping in treatment of COVID-19 patients of these districts. Chief District Officer and Chairperson of COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee, Jhapa, Shrawan Kumar Timsina, shared that the oxygen concentrators provided by the Association have already been distributed to 12 local levels of Jhapa district.

NRNA donated 428 oxygen concentrators arrive

KATHMANDU, June 6: An additional 428 oxygen concentrators bought with financial support of the members of the Non-resident Nepalis Association and diaspora Nepali community arrived here on Saturday evening. The oxygen concentrators were bought with funds raised by the campaign initiated by the NRNA to meet the rising demand of medical oxygen for COVID-19 patients in Nepal. The concerned national coordination council of the NRNA worked to collect funds for the much-needed oxygen concentrators. Accordingly, 150 were received from the UK, 100 from Australia, 75 from Canada, 30 from Germany, 20 from South Africa, 10 from Italy, seven from China and 36 from other organisations,  according to NRNA spokesperson DB Chettri. The Nepali Embassy in Beijing and the NRNA national coordination council, China help procure those concentrators while the Government of Nepal sponsored the transportation cost. Likewise, the NRNA Africa has procured 145 oxygen cylinders and 1,150 refill oxygen cylinders and medical supplies, which were handed over to 28 hospitals in 13 districts from Ilam to Jumla. Meanwhile, with funds collected from around the world, the NRNA is going to set up oxygen plants in all the seven provinces of the country, Chettri added.

Goodwill Foundation donates 50 oxygen concentrators

The Goodwill Foundation, a social organisation based in Tibet, China, has donated 50 oxygen concentrators to Nepal.

Health Service Office, Humla procures eight new oxygen concentrators

SIMKOT, May 31: Health Service Office Humla has purchased eight new oxygen concentrators bearing in mind the surging cases of COVID-19. The device is seen more useful in the treatment of COVID-19 in the rural areas, said office chief Prem Bahadur Singh.  Prior to this, there were three oxygen concentrators in the district hospital.  Doctor Tasi Angju Lama said the availability of additional medical devices would obviously ease in dealing with the cases. The current capacity of the hospital is to provide treatment to 12 COVID-19 patients simultaneously.

NRNA to supply oxygen concentrators to Nepal

KATHMANDU, May 9: The Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has decided to supply medical equipment worth approximately Rs 2 million to Nepal immediately as the country is struggling with the second wave of coronavirus.  An emergency meeting of the NRNA held on Friday under the chairpersonship of its President Kumar Pant decided to send 100 oxygen concentrators to Nepal immediately, according to NRNA’s Health Committee coordinator Dr sanjiv Sapkota. He spoke the need for coming up with short-term and long-term plans for the sustainable management of medical oxygen which is crucial for the treatment of Covid-19 especially for those with shortness of breath.   NRNA vice-president Dr Badri KC highlighted the need for setting up a help desk to provide mental health service and counseling during the crisis.   On the occasion, NRNA treasurer Mahesh Shrestha urged all national committees to lend helping hands to Nepal to fight the pandemic. NRNA America general secretary informed that a Covid-19 isolation center would be established soon in Janakpur at the cost of 15,000 US dollar while NRNA UK president Punam Gurung said they had urged the British Government for Covid-19 vaccine support to Nepal.   As said by NRNA Australia president Keshab Kandel, the Nepali community in Australia had launched a fund raising campaign to help Nepal fight the pandemic. The participants of the meeting stressed the need for establishing more isolation centers, providing motivation to health/medical workers, increasing the PCR test coverage and launching the health awareness campaign to control the infection risk.
